NFL Week 14 Best Betting Picks and Predictions
Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions - 1:00PM ET
The 10-2 Vikings are getting points against the 5-7 Lions on Sunday? Tom Hardy would say, "that's bait." The oddsmakers are begging you to bet on Minnesota in this one, but we're not falling for it. Instead, we're rolling with Detroit, which has quietly been playing some great football lately.
The Lions are 4-1 straight-up and 5-0 against the spread in its last five games, with wins over the Packers and Giants in that span. They also kept things close in a loss to the Bills on Thanksgiving Day. Also, over the last two seasons, Detroit is 11-2 ATS in the second half of the year. This team has been helping bettors profit late in the year for two seasons now and we don't think the Lions are done yet.
Justin Jefferson is obviously an unguardable player, which makes it hard to imagine Detroit getting off the field very often in this one. But how exactly does Minnesota plan to get stops? The Lions have the sixth-best scoring offense in the league and D'Andre Swift is now healthier than he has been all season. That means there's another level this Detroit offense can reach.
PICK: Lions -1.5 (-110 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos - 4:05PM ET
It might seem like there's a bloodbath looming in the meeting between the 3-9 Broncos and 9-3 Chiefs, but it's important to be thorough when betting on matchups like this one. The reality is that Denver has as good of a shot at slowing down Patrick Mahomes' offense as anyone, as the Broncos are sixth in the league in scoring defense and third in yards per game allowed through the air.
We know it might be hard to trust Russell Wilson to manufacture enough points to help you cover in this game, but the Chiefs have a mediocre defense and that means that he'll at least have a shot of performing at a higher level than usual — and we acknowledge it might not be that high of a bar to clear. If Denver can just find a way to score 17 or so points here, this should be an easy cover.
It also doesn't hurt that the Chiefs are just 1-7 ATS when facing AFC opponents this season, and they have only won those games by an average of 1.3 points per game.
PICK: Broncos +9.5 (-110 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
Carolina Panthers vs. Seattle Seahawks - 4:25PM ET
Another game, another bet on a team that sits below .500 on the season. Fun! Carolina has, however, won two of its last three games and looked wildly competent with Sam Darnold under center against Denver two weeks ago. Now, the Panthers have had the bye week to get Darnold even more comfortable in their offense, while also having the opportunity to try and find ways to slow down Geno Smith and the Seahawks offense. The latter will be a lot easier with rookie Kenneth Walker III injured.
This might not be a game in which the Panthers roll into a very difficult road atmosphere and win outright, but we do think they can hang around and find a way to keep it within one score. The Seahawks might be in the NFC playoff picture, but they have slowed down a bit after a hot start. They have lost two of their last three games and failed to cover in all three. Seattle's defense has also given up 63 points over the last two weeks.
PICK: Panthers +4 (-110 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
