Celtics win 2023-24 NBA Finals

It was just over a year ago when we were looking at our NBA Finals predictions and noticed something big.

The Celtics, largely considered the best team in the NBA at the time and for most of the season, had a 40.8% probability from our model to win the NBA Finals.

The big part? Their odds were +260, an implied probability of just 27.8%.

The Dimers model said the Celtics had no business being any longer than +150 as the clear favorite in the NBA and yet, there they were at a delicious +260. They went on to roll through the postseason and drub the Mavericks in five games to win the NBA Finals, cashing out $260 of profit on a $100 bet.

Three Out of Four World Series Finalists

Let's go back a little bit further for this one, but it's got to be one our all-time great calls.

Before the 2021 MLB season started, we got the greenlight from the bosses to make a little Dimers investment in the World Series winner.

We took our cash and played our top three value plays to win the Fall Classic - the Houston Astros (+2200), Atlanta Braves (+1400) and Boston Red Sox (+7500).

Sharp-minded readers will see those first two names and remember that was the World Series matchup that year. But don't forget - the Red Sox also made the ALCS.

Over six months in advance, we  picked three of the four finalists in the World Series that year, with the Braves ultimately winning it all and cashing us $9,000 on out $600 ticket.

Shohei Ohtani's Second MVP Award

The writing was on the wall in 2023 and we tried to get the word out before time ran out - hopefully you cashed in with us when Shohei Ohtani won his second MVP award.

It was only June and the superstar was a -145 favorite to win the American league MVP award.

While those odds are pretty far from what you'd like on a futures bet that's still five months away from paying out, everyone who paid attention knew the only thing preventing Ohtani from winning that year was an injury.

That's why we suggested parlaying Ohtani to win MVP with any other futures bet. An instant boost to any odds, you could have easily increased your payout on a ticket.

The rest is history, literally, as Ohtani went on to win his second unanimous AL MVP award in back-to-back years.

2024-25 NBA Finals Prediction

Okay, so this one isn't a win yet and there's still quite some time to go.

But, we've got a sweet ticket in play by using our NBA futures predictions from the start of the NBA season.

Dimers' favorite team in each conference was the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder, with an edge to the Celtics to win it all.

We took that data, went and paired each team to win their conference and reach the NBA Finals. Then we threw a 30% boost on it for some extra juice in our favor.

That was way back on October 22. Now, that bet is +190 on the same book, meaning that same $50 bet would win just $95, lower than the current cashout offer we're getting.

Close Calls And Proper Fades

Sometimes it's not only about who will win in the long-term, but who could get there. Betting on a team with a lower probability can still be worth the investment if the odds are right.

It can also help you identify which teams not to bet on due to the value not being there.

Last MLS season was highlighted by the arrival of Lionel Messi to Inter Miami and with him, plenty of hype. Reasonably so as he's the best ever to come to the MLS, but still, our model wasn't buying into the hype that they were the immediate and very short favorites to win the MLS Cup.

That July, Inter Miami sat at +175 to win the MLS Cup. however, the DimersBOT gave them just an 18.3% probability to win - fair odds of barely +400. They were bounced in Round 1, proving to be incorrectly priced all the way through.
