College Football: Biggest Winners and Losers from Week 10

Week 10 was one of the most stacked weeks of college football this season. Alabama won a big game against LSU under the lights, Georgia continued its winning ways against a really good Missouri team, Texas survived Kansas State, Oklahoma fell for the second straight week on the road and Michael Penix Jr won the battle of elite quarterbacks against Caleb Williams. Here are Dimers’ three winners and three losers from Week 10 of College Football.

Before we dive in, you should know that it definitely pays to have more than one funded account with the best US Sportsbooks when betting on sports.

Winners

Texas

Texas was taken to the brink on Saturday against Kansas State. The Longhorns were up 27-7 in the third quarter but two fumbles and 20 unanswered points by the Wildcats later, the game was headed to overtime.

Texas got a defensive stop on fourth down in overtime to win the game 33-30 and keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive. That was the type of game that Texas would choke away and lose in years past. Playoff teams find a way to win in November, even when they lose the turnover and battle and are poor on third down (2-for-15) like Texas was.

Jalen Milroe

Jalen Milroe may have had his best game as Alabama’s quarterback. Sure, LSU’s defense isn’t the toughest test he’s faced this season, but Milroe was in control all game. He threw for 219 yards and ran for 155 yards and four scores. He was also smart with the football as he didn’t have any turnovers.

Alabama’s offense was a bit shaky early in the season but the Tide are coming along nicely as the season has progressed. If Milroe continues to play like he did against LSU, Alabama could be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the regular season.

Georgia's Defense

If you look at the final score of Georgia’s 30-21 win against Missouri, you might think that the Bulldogs struggled. That was not the case. Sure, Missouri hung around and covered the 15.5-point spread but Georgia’s defense held one of the best receivers in the country, Luther Burden III, to just three catches for 53 yards. That was Burden’s second-lowest output of the season.

Georgia’s defense also forced two turnovers late in the game to seal the victory against a really good Missouri offense. Georgia’s defense will continue to be tested in the next two games against Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Losers

Oklahoma Again

Not many teams have had a worse two-week stretch than Oklahoma. Just 10 days ago, Oklahoma was riding an undefeated record and playoff aspirations into Lawrence, Kansas. The Jayhawks upset Oklahoma as 7.5-point underdogs.

The very next week, in the final scheduled game of the Bedlam series, the Sooners fell as 5.5-point favorites at Oklahoma State. In back-to-back weeks, Oklahoma lost by one score on the road, had the opposing fans storm the field after the game and had the opposing fans tear down a goalpost and throw it in a body of water. Don’t worry Sooner fans, it’s only up from here.

USC's Defense

If you’ve read this series before, you know that USC’s defense has been a loser of the week numerous times. I promise, I try not to target a certain team but when you allow 256 rushing  yards and four rushing touchdowns to Washington’s Dillon Johnson, you need to be on the loser of the week list.

Washington is not a team that thrives on its rushing attack. Before Saturday’s game, Johnson had not had over 100 rushing yards yet this season. Johnson averaged more yards per carry (9.8) than Michael Penix Jr (8.5) did yards per pass. Now that USC defensive coordinator Alex Grinch is fired, hopefully the defense will improve.

Sam Hartman

Notre Dame’s offense had a ton of potential coming into the season. The Fighting Irish landed Sam Hartman out of the portal and have stud running back Audric Estime. However, it still doesn’t seem like everything has clicked yet.

Hartman had one of his worst games of the season on Saturday as he only completed 43% of his passes and threw two interceptions in a 31-23 loss against Clemson. I can’t help but wonder if Notre Dame still had recently departed offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, who’s now at Alabama, would the Irish be better offensively.
