College Football: Biggest Winners and Losers from Week 1

Week 1 of the College Football season delivered despite only one ranked game on the slate. There were upsets by double-digit point spread underdogs, see Wyoming over Texas Tech, Texas State over Baylor and Colorado over TCU, and there were emphatic statements made, none bigger than Florida State. Here are Dimers' three biggest winners and three losers from Week 1 of college football.

Before we dive in, you should know that it definitely pays to have more than one funded account with the best US Sportsbooks when betting on sports.

For example, did you know that new users at bet365, new users can claim $200 in Bonus Bets when they sign up and place a $1 bet on anything. With the grind of football season now here, this is one of the best ways to establish some early bankroll.

bet365 may only be available in limited states at the moment (although, keep an eye out because the world-renowned sportsbook have plans to expand outside of their current OH, CO, IA, VA and NJ bases soon), but they’re offering some of the strongest signup offers and boosts out there right now.

Winners

Florida State

The story in the ACC all offseason was if Florida State could dethrone Clemson at the top of the ACC. After Sunday’s 45-24 beatdown of reigning SEC west champion LSU, it certainly looks like the Seminoles are a serious threat to Clemson’s dynasty in the conference.

Florida State’s next big game will be in Week 4 at Clemson. That game will be a clash of styles when it comes to roster building. Dabo Swinney at Clemson does not utilize the transfer portal while Florida State head coach Mike Norvell built his roster with some of the top transfers in the nation. Until then, the Seminoles are one of the best bets in the ACC.

Deion Sanders

Colorado was one of the most talked about teams in the nation this offseason. Deion Sanders completely rebuilt the roster through the transfer portal. The Buffaloes preseason win total was set at 3.5 and the over looks good after Colorado’s opening win against reigning National runners-up TCU.

The Buffaloes have a good chance at starting 3-0. They play Nebraska and Colorado State in the next two games and will be favorites in both matchups. After the win over TCU, Colorado shot up the odds board to win the Pac-12. Colorado will certainly be one of the most popular teams to bet on this season.

Pac-12

Colorado wasn’t the only Pac-12 team that impressed in Week 1. The conference as a whole went 12-0. Washington dominated Mountain West favorite Boise State 56-19, Oregon State won 42-17 at San Jose State and Utah beat SEC foe Florida.

The Pac-12 is off to a great start in its final season as one of the premier conferences in college football. If there’s ever a year for the conference to make the College Football Playoff, it’s this season considering how deep the league is.

Losers

Texas Tech

The Big 12 has been a wide-open conference for the past two seasons. Four different teams have played in the Big 12 Championship Game in the past two years and neither of them was named Oklahoma or Texas. Heading into the season, Texas Tech was a dark horse pick by many to win the conference.

For those that picked Texas Tech to make a run this year, that declaration took a hit after the Red Raiders lost in double overtime at Wyoming on Saturday. Texas Tech could be staring at 0-2 with the Oregon Ducks coming to town in Week 2. It might be time to find a new dark horse in the Big 12.

WVU +20.5

The classic backdoor cover. West Virginia against the spread bettors got screwed on Saturday night when Penn State backup quarterback Beau Pribula found the end zone from five yards out with just six seconds on the clock to cover the 21-point spread.

This was not the start to the year that West Virginia bettors or head coach Neal Brown wanted. Brown is under pressure to win games to keep his job, but the Mountaineers have a tough September schedule with games against Pitt, Texas Tech and TCU still to come this month.

South Carolina offensive line

The Gamecocks had one of the more underwhelming performances this weekend. South Carolina’s preseason win total was set at 5.5 and that seemed low for a program that had back-to-back winning seasons.

Well, Vegas always knows something. The South Carolina offensive line allowed Spencer Rattler to get sacked nine times on Saturday night in Charlotte. No, they weren’t facing the vaunted 1985 Chicago Bears. They were facing a defense that was below average in nearly every single defensive statistic last season in FBS. The Gamecocks looked very shaky in game one.
