Who to bet on in the inaugural 2022 Crypto.com Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix

Formula 1 makes its debut in Miami this weekend with the inaugural 2022 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, and despite attempts by Miami Gardens neighbors to stop the race and also the build of a fake marina made of fake water, the race will go on.

Dimers.com F1 expert Brad Montagne takes a closer look at F1s newest race.

This Miami surface is different than any track in Formula 1 history with more silica content in the limerock, due to what was available to builders in south Florida. Until practice starts, it’s unknown which team will be able to take advantage of it.

Surfaced just 60 days — the absolute minimum lead-up time — before the race, the average speed is predicted to be about 135 mph, so the rocket cars of Ferrari and Red Bull might not be at such an advantage.

The weather forecast calls for rain every day except Saturday, which should make for interesting conditions as team Red Bull driver Max Verstappen of the Netherlands, goes for this second straight win after claiming the 2022 Italian Grand Prix back on April 24.

Max Verstappen is the favorite to win the Miami Grand Prix at +100 with DraftKings Sportbook with Charles Leclerc of Ferrari the second-favorite at +120. From there the drop is significant with Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez third at +1200.

Lando Norris, of McLaren, finished third in Italy and comes to Miami as a +4000 longshot.

There’s little betting value in trusting in either of the Red Bull stars, but Perez at +1200 and Carlos Sainz Jr. are very intriguing at +1600.

This should be a great race with very aggressive strategies as the 2022 season begins to take shape.

Formula 1 racing has become, perhaps, the fastest-growing spectator sport in America, thanks in large measure to the Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive’. This season has shown a shift in power early with Ferrari rushing to the top of the Constructor Standings with 124 points, followed by Red Bull with 113.

Past powers Mercedes and McLaren find themselves trailing badly, due mostly to rule changes put in place by F1 intended to create smoother air and cleaner aerodynamics, thereby making it easier to pass and keep races more competitive to the checkered flag.

With this in mind, Ferrari mailed it in, more or less, the last two years preparing for this new era.

The strategy appears to have worked.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, with Mercedes, is a significant underdog at +6500, the same odds given to his teammate George Russell.

Hamilton, the one-time star and face of the sport, is doing the best he can with a pig of a car, while his teammate Russell has done a better job thus far with the new, porpoising car that has been a handful for him to drive.

Mercedes is hard at work trying to fix these problems, so improvement can be expected, but don’t expect to see any as early as this weekend, even with the slower and unpredictable new course.

Bettors should stay focused on Red Bull and Ferrari, and there is value to be had with Red Bull’s Perez at +1200.

2022 Miami F1 Grand Prix Odds

  • Max Verstappen - Red Bull (+100)
  • Charles LeClerc - Ferrari (+120)
  • Sergio Perez - Red Bull (+1200)
  • Carlos Sainz Jr. - Ferrari (+1600)
  • Lando Norris - McLaren (+4000)
