Top MLB Betting Trends for Friday, August 18

1. Chas McCormick (HOU) To Record a Hit

Frequency: 9 of last 12 games
Odds: -150

He's not one of the biggest names in baseball but Chas McCormick has sure been hitting like it. For three-straight months, he's hit over .300 and is in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak. McCormick is much better against lefties but still has a .257 average against right-handers like Seattle's Bryce Miller, who has allowed at least five hits in four-straight outings and five of his last six.

2. Mitch Garver (TEX) To Record a Hit

Frequency: 13 of last 15 games
Odds: -145

We've said it before, but we love our cacher props because the odds are never as long as they should be for the guys who are hitting well. Case in point, Mitch Garver, who comes into this game hitting .400 in August and a hit in 13 of his last 15 games, including a little five-game hit streak that he's on right now. He bats .263 off right-handers and Brandon Woodruff (RHP) will take the mound for the BrewCrew. It's possible Garver gets scratched as he's not an everyday player, but he typically catches for Andrew Heaney who will be starting for Texas tonight.

3. Ryan Mountcastle (BAL) To Record a Hit

Frequency: 16 of last 17 games
Odds: -235

Are the leaves falling off the trees yet? Because Ryan Mountcastle is a rake. He has one hitless night (was walked twice) breaking up a 17-game hit streak, which would be the longest active streak in MLB. He's hitting an absurd .407 with five multi-hit games in August. As of this writing, we don't know who is starting for Oakland, but we don't care. The A's pitching staff allows the third-worst batting average and worst WHIP to opposing hitters at .270.
