The Surge in WNBA Betting Action Being Led by Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever
There's a whirlwind of bets swirling around Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever as the WNBA gears up for what promises to be an electrifying season, a Vegas insider has declared.
Bookmakers are feeling the heat, particularly with the Fever emerging as the prime risk at BetMGM Sportsbook. Nearly half of all betting tickets are riding on the Fever, who kick off their season against the Connecticut Sun this Tuesday.
Indiana holds the second spot in money wagered, capturing 29% of the action. They trail behind the perennial favorite, the two-time reigning WNBA champions, the Las Vegas Aces, who command a hefty 41.5% of the bets. These popular teams are not only favorites among casual bettors but also draw considerable attention from the pros.
The flood of bets pouring in for the Fever has caused quite a stir, shifting their championship odds from +2500 to +1800. Meanwhile, Las Vegas has moved from a +115 favorite to even money.
"It's Caitlin Clark who's been driving unprecedented interest, stemming from her remarkable performance in the women’s NCAA Tournament," the sportsbook insider said. "We anticipate Fever games will be the hotspots for betting activity this season, with Clark's player props gaining significant traction among bettors."
Similar trends are observed at Caesars Sportsbook.
Indiana, which struggled with a 13-27 record last season but managed to secure Clark as the top overall pick, shares the fourth-best odds with the Sun at 15-1.
The favorites at Caesars remain the Aces at +100, followed by last year’s runners-up, the New York Liberty at +240, and the Seattle Storm at +800.
"There's definitely a noticeable surge in betting activity compared to this time last year, but it's no surprise given the buzz surrounding Clark,” they added.
This buzz has also propelled Clark into the MVP conversation. She's garnered a significant 68% of wagers at BetMGM online sportsbook for the league's top individual honor, presenting a compelling value bet at +1000.
Favorites for the MVP title include Las Vegas’ A’ja Wilson at +120 and New York’s Breanna Stewart at +550, both previous two-time winners. Stewart narrowly clinched the title last season, edging out Wilson and the Sun’s Alyssa Thomas in a closely contested vote. Wilson's perceived snub served as motivation during last year's WNBA playoffs.
