The Biggest Sports Betting Wins of 2022

5. Bettor Cashes Out a $1 Million Parlay

Our first big win on the list for 2022 is equal parts big win and equal parts the-worst-bad-beat-of-your-life type stuff.

In early September, fresh into a new season of College Football, Twitter user @doritos_cv (account now suspended) posted a 25-leg parlay that would have paid out more than $1 million from an unfathomably small $7.16 wager (those are odds of +14190477, just in case you were wondering).

With 23 legs cashed, he decided to take a cash out option offered to him by FanDuel Sportsbook for just a little over $250,000. The only problem? His remaining two legs on the parlay - Over 56.5 points in Michigan State vs. Washington and Texas A&M -6.5 over Miami - cashed, meaning that if the bettor had just held his nerve and let it ride, he would have instead walked away with $1,016,035.47.

$250,00 is still cool - and definitely deserving of a place on our biggest winners of 2022 list - but damn, you can’t tell me you wouldn’t think about what could have been.

4. Three Buddies Clean Up More Than $375,000 on NBA First Basket Parlay

January 2022 was a crazy month for the obsession among the gambling community that is NBA First Basket parlays. For a stretch early in the year, it seemed like every night, social media feeds were littered with huge wins of improbable combinations of first basket scorers - but the apex of the First Basket craze came in mid-January when a group of three friends from Pennsylvania tailed the same six-leg parlay that would eventually win them a combined total of $375,000 from an outlay of just $1.50.

The bet, which totaled six players to score the first basket of each game across the nine-game NBA slate, was crafted by Abdul Murphy Jr from East Stroudsburg, who then texted his two buddies the slip and encouraged them to tail.

The rest, as they say, is history.

As LeBron James sunk the first basket of the west coast late game against the Kings, the parlay was complete and each man walked away with a six-figure payout for their troubles.

3. One of the Greatest Parlay Wins of all Time

If you’re in the gambling game, you’ll know that sometimes you just need to have Lady Luck on your side. That was exactly the scenario facing Chicago super-bettor Marco Piemonte in Week 15 of this year’s NFL season when his monster five-leg parlay cashed for a cool payout of more than $2.8 million, thanks to not only the largest comeback in NFL history, but also the craziest ending to a game in recent memory.

The parlay, which was placed with DraftKings Sportsbook for an outlay of $31,000, included: the Minnesota Vikings to beat the Colts, Browns to beat the Ravens, Dolphins +7 vs. the Bills, Jaguars +4 vs. the Cowboys, and finally, the Raiders to win against the Patriots.

The bet looked dead almost immediately after it began with the Vikings trailing 33-0 at halftime against the Colts. Sportsbooks were trading Minnesota at odds as high as +5000 on the moneyline to stage the biggest comeback in NFL history. And that's what they did, winning 39-36.

Moving onto the final leg during the Sunday slate, and needing the Raiders to win the game and the Patriots outright, once again things were not looking good for the bettor as the Pats took control of things down the stretch.

There was life, however, when Derek Carr found Keelan Cole with 32 seconds remaining to tie things up.

Needing to avoid New England scoring on the final play of the game as time expired, what would follow was perhaps the craziest ending to an NFL game of all-time.

After a big thrust forward, running back Rhamondre Stevenson lateraled to Jakobi Meyers. Meyers threw the ball backwards, right into the arms of Raiders defender Chandler Jones who delivered the ball into the endzone, giving Las Vegas the win and Marco the most ridiculous of parlay wins.

2. NASCAR Bettor Hits $1 Million

One sports bettor broke a new frontier in August when he turned a $13.49 free bet into almost $1 million win on a NASCAR parlay.

Yes, NASCAR.

The lucky gambler, from Michigan, cashed in by taking four drivers - David Ragan (+950), Landon Cassill (+1500), Cody Ware (+2000) and B.J. McLeod (+2000) - each to finish in the Top 10 of the Coke Zero Sugar 400 in Daytona Beach.

When David Ragan crossed the line in ninth place, the FanDuel Sportsbook wager had won $999,433.63, leaving absolutely everyone surprised - especially the FanDuel social media team.

2022s Biggest Parlay Hits

1. Mattress Mack Hits the Biggest Gambling Win of All-Time

Like him or not, 2022 in sports betting belonged to Houston tycoon, Mattress Mack. The 71-year-old, known for owning and operating the Gallery Furniture retail chain, took multiple ‘books for the all-time biggest sports betting win when he took home more than $75 million as the Houston Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series.

Mack, whose real name Jim McIngvale, placed the series of bets adding up to close to $10 million of wagers on his beloved Astros team with multiple sportsbooks throughout the 2022 MLB season including Caesars Sportsbook, Barstool Sportsbook and Wynn Sportsbook, getting the AL Champions at odds of 10-1 and 12-1.

When the Astros dispatched the Phillies in six games, the Texas native went to Vegas to collect his money.

It capped off a truly remarkable year for Mack who started the year off badly by losing $9.5 million on the Bengals to win the Super Bowl. He recovered to profit more than $11 million over the course of the 2022 NCAA Championship before his apex in November’s World Series.
