Steelers vs. Dolphins Odds and Betting Lines

Why The Steelers Will Cover The Spread

Head coach Mike Tomlin always gets the most out of his roster but certainly has his work cut out this season, especially with Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt still on the shelf.

The Steelers can keep this one close if the backfield tandem of Najee Harris, averaging a mere 3.2 yards on 88 carries, and rookie change-of-pace Jaylen Warren can do some damage and take pressure off Kenny Pickett, who was cleared to practice Wednesday, or Mitchell Trubisky. Tomlin has hinted Warren’s workload will increase. He could be the spark the offense needs and there was also a Chase Claypool sighting (seven receptions, 96 yards and a touchdown) last Sunday.

Why The Dolphins Will Cover The Spread

Aside from a quarterback upgrade, Miami is overdue for a strong defensive effort. It had the markings in the first half last week when it held the Vikings off the scoreboard for the first 27-plus minutes before reverting to a recent trend.

Pittsburgh, with some-much needed confidence after beating Tom Brady and the Bucs, is still a missed extra-point away by the Bengals in the opener from being 1-5 heading into this prime-time matchup and has had trouble scoring regardless of its quarterback.

Why The Over Will Hit

Overshadowed by the Tua Tagovailoa situation has been the lack of consistency from Miami’s defense. The Dolphins have yielded 91 points in consecutive losses to the Bengals, Jets and Vikings, plus don’t forget 38 in a win over the Ravens.

In addition, this isn’t the same Pittsburgh defense everyone is used to seeing. Even after beating Tampa Bay, the Steelers are allowing an alarming 398 yards per game. Their track record without Watt isn’t pretty.

Why The Under Will Hit

As long as any turnovers don’t lead to instant points, this total could top out in the neighborhood of 35-40 points.

The highest-scoring Steelers’ game so far featured 46 points and that was because of a freak defensive touchdown for the Browns on a multi-lateral final play in Week 3.

Moreover, both offenses could look to get their sluggish running games, which rank 28th (Pittsburgh, 86.7 ypg) and 30th (Miami, 81.2 ypg) in the league, on track at the same time.

Steelers vs. Dolphins Prediction

Lean: Dolphins -7

The Steelers were 0-7 all-time without Watt prior to last week. Two in a row is a lot to ask. Lean Dolphins for the win and cover.
