Premier League - More Betting
Prospector Sam - The Season That Was
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened” – some fool who doesn’t understand the pain of 3 months without genuine European soccer.
While we still have a Champions League and Europa League Final to go, we’ve hit the end of the road in terms of consistent soccer picks for the foreseeable future, which is a good time to step back and reflect on how everything went. Since I began writing for Dimers in November, I’ve done my best to keep readers aware of how things are going from a gambling standpoint on the sports I bet regularly. I did it with March Madness, and I’ll do it with soccer so you can all get a feel for how worthwhile I am. As I’ve stated before, I tend to think of this character as more about the writing and humor than the actual gambling, but giving winners is the figurative milkshake that brings the boys to the yard in the betting world, so I’ll lean into that angle too.
I spent some time tallying up all of my official blog picks and, as expected, soccer continues to be a place where I make money. THE most important thing to focus on as a gambler, and as someone who follows picks, is what the long term return is. Any sharp can have a massive weekend where they hit everything, the same way they can have a terrible weekend where nothing goes right. Its still gambling, after all, and it still happens to me (I had an 8 game losing streak at one point this year). But, in the long term, you see who really make money and who doesn’t because those short term fluctuations balance out and consistent profits (or losses) become more clear. As someone who spends a lot of time betting soccer and promoting my soccer picks as “good,” I damn well better be able to show a positive net return over time if I want to have an ounce of credibility.
Thankfully, the numbers reflect just that. I generally bet everything I pick at a “1 Unit” level, so I tabulated the payout for every selection I made at that price. Since November 29th I’m 30.85 Units up using that betting strategy, which is a very respectable long term payout. My “record” was 71-53-2, which sort of tells you something but also is pretty meaningless without knowing the odds for each bet (that’s why I led with the payout). I didn’t spend the time to calculate exactly, but, with that combination of record and profit, my average winning bet is a bit above +100 overall. The return isn’t miraculous, but that’s kind of the point. I make good picks and hit at a strong enough percentage to win more than I lose, but it’s a reasonable number that is certainly possible for long term betting (i.e. its not some fake cash cow that wouldn’t be realistic for a gambler to actually make).
So what does this tell you? Well, I try to be humorous and self deprecating most of the time, but I’ve got to make sure everyone knows I have street cred too (am I hip with the kids and their lingo these days?). I’m pretty good at this, and my soccer bets will make you money over the long term if you consistently follow them. Add in the fact that you don’t have to pay a penny for them, and they’re a valuable source of information if you want to use it.
What’s my angle here? I want you to read, and to share with other people to read. I don’t make a cent off giving out my picks and I don’t need to share them to make money (I do that by betting them myself). I’m here because I love writing and I want to grow my following and Dimers’ following to make this project into something bigger. If you like the writing itself, then great, that makes me very happy. If you need some monetary reason to click links, that’s fine and I’ve got you covered there too. But, overall, I hope this builds some genuine interest and support going into next year so we can all win some more money and live happily ever after together. Until then, I hope you enjoy the rest of my content and follow along regularly.
