Week 2 English Premier League Best Bets
Arsenal vs. Leicester City Best Bet
Kickoff: Saturday, August 13 at 10:00AM ET
Play: Gabriel Jesus to score (+135 at DraftKings)
Arsenal opened the Premier League season last week with a 2-0 victory on the road over Crystal Palace. It was a remarkably assured performance and two of their new signings from Man City, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko played pivotal roles.
Jesus in particular had a masterful performance. The Brazilian spent over five years at Man City but this was arguably one of his best Premier League performances. Freed from the shackles of Pep Guardiola and able to play down the middle, in team who play a more direct style, it really showcased his best attributes.
The 25-year old did everything but score, he was a key part of Arsenal’s play, receiving the ball from teammates 51 times and having seven touches in the opposition box. If he plays like that for the rest of the season there is little doubt that he’ll have had a hugely successful season and will have scored a lot of goals.
On Saturday he faces a Leicester team who allowed Brentford to score two, so I fully expect him to get chances and score in this game, his home debut.
Leeds vs. Southampton Best Bet
Kickoff: Saturday, August 13 at 10:00AM ET
Play: Leeds to win (+215 at DraftKings)
Leeds started the season brilliantly with a win over Wolves and they’ll look to secure another three points away at Southampton. There’s no shame in losing to Spurs but the manner of Southampton’s 4-1 defeat on the opening weekend will be a real concern. So too will be the whispers of unhappy players in the locker room. If Ralph Hasenhuttl has lost the players then there’s only one way this is ending.
Meanwhile in Leeds the players seem to have really taken onboard the coaching of Jesse Marsch who has done a brilliant job of trying to retain Leeds' attacking DNA while also adding defensive stability. Most impressive was another American, Brenden Aaronson, who really drove the team up the pitch and offered real attacking threat for Leeds. If he continues playing like that he’ll soon be adored by the supporters.
You’re getting a huge +215 price on Leeds and given what we saw last weekend it could be the best value bet of the weekend.
Bournemouth vs. Manchester City Best Bet
Kickoff: Saturday, August 13 at 10:00AM ET
Play: Erling Haaland to score a header (+700 at Bet365)
Man City’s new Norwegian striker was everything we expected in his first Premier League game and it’s already clear that Erling Haaland is, health permitting, going to score a lot of goals this season.
There’s absolutely no value to be had on backing him to score but betting on him to score a header at +700 looks like it could be a good price and should probably be shorter.
Haaland scored twice last week, both with his left foot but he did have chances with his head and Man City did look to hit him with crosses to attack with his head. He managed four headed goals in 27 Bundesliga and Champions League goals last year, and now on a better team, who are targeting his aerial ability, I think there’s a real chance we see him score plenty of them this season.
