Predictive Analytics Model Picks Five Teams With Best Shot At Winning 2022-23 NBA Championship

1. Boston Celtics - 14.3% Chance

The Celtics made it all the way to the NBA Finals last year, falling short against the Golden State Warriors with the title on the line. But that experience should only help a young Boston core grow, and the team could be even better this year. The Celtics have some adversity to deal with, with Ime Udoka no longer running the show, but they have had some time to get Derrick White comfortable. And they added a very good player in Malcolm Brogdon in the offseason.

2. Golden State Warriors - 12.5% Chance

In addition to having their full core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Jordan Poole back, the Warriors should get some improvements from young guys like Jonathan Kuminga and James Wiseman. On top of that, Golden State brought in Donte DiVincenzo and JaMychal Green to bolster its bench. This team can absolutely repeat as champion this year, but Draymond and Poole will need to find a way to play nice with one another.

3. Milwaukee Bucks - 10.0% Chance

The Bucks won a title two years ago and they have done a good job of adding some solid role players around Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton. But Middleton will be out for the start of the season and health has been an issue for him in recent years. Milwaukee needs him to get right in order to compete for a title again, but the talent is definitely there. It helps that Brook Lopez is fully healthy right now, as that wasn't the case down the stretch last year. And the addition of Joe Ingles could play dividends down the road.

4. Brooklyn Nets - 8.6% Chance

There isn't a team in the league that would be able to stop a healthy, focused Nets team from winning the title, but this is still a franchise that has Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons as its Big 3. Those are some of the league's hardest players to trust, which is why the Nets are available at such a good price. Our model likes Brooklyn's chances to win it all, and it isn't hard to see why. The Nets are absolutely loaded with good basketball players, even outside of their stars. Brooklyn brought in T.J. Warren, Markieff Morris and Royce O'Neale in the offseason. All three can help take pressure off of the team's studs. Simmons is the X-factor here though. He needs to be in a good place mentally in order for the Nets to reach their potential.

5. Los Angeles Clippers - 8.5% Chance

On paper, the Clippers have the most complete team in basketball. Kawhi Leonard is healthy right now, meaning he'll join forces with Paul George once again. They're the best wing combination in the entire NBA, by far. But Los Angeles is also loaded with talent around those two, with last season's trade for Norman Powell and Robert Covington being a big reason for that. However, the Clippers also signed John Wall to a very team-friendly deal this summer. If Wall is even half the player he once was and Los Angeles can find a way to stay healthy, this group will feel good about its chances against anyone.
