Picking a Premier League winner for the 2024/2025 season
The Premier League faces its day of reckoning after Manchester City won their fourth title in a row last season. Indeed, for the first time in its history, England’s top flight is in danger of becoming a league that is dominated entirely by one team over an extended period.
Essentially, the need for a new champion has never been greater in order to preserve the Premier League’s status as the most unpredictable soccer competition in the world. The question is: Who will win the Premier League in 2024/2025?
Manchester City
Some might even argue that the Premier League has already become a tournament devoid of genuine competition after City made history by winning their fourth title.
City’s devastating consistency does lend itself to the argument being made. However, it is also true that the title race over the last four years has never felt like a procession.
You only need to consider that two of the last three seasons have gone down to the final day. Specifically, if it weren't for a remarkable 3-2 comeback on the last day against Aston Villa during the 2021/2022 season, Liverpool would have broken City’s stranglehold on the Premier League trophy.
Even if it has been a compelling watch right until the final whistle of matchday 38 every season, the dismayed detractors would say that City continue to find a way to get over the line. This can’t be disputed.
Perhaps what is more unsettling is that while all dynasties eventually come to an end, the one at the Etihad Stadium doesn’t feel like it is in its final stages.
That might only happen when Pep Guardiola leaves, the Spaniard has committed to leading City during the 2024/2025 campaign which is why the markets price City at +130 to win a fifth consecutive title. It is, undoubtedly, ominous news for those hoping for a changing of the guard next season.
Who might challenge City?
City not only face challenges on the pitch but also off it, with 115 charges of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules hanging over the club.
While City strenuously denies any FFP breaches, the clouds above the Etihad Stadium are getting darker. Sooner or later, this long-running saga might begin to take its toll on playing personnel due to the severe consequences of being found guilty. A hefty points deduction would categorically end City’s hopes of winning the league.
On the playing front, the club most likely to push City next season is Arsenal - this is something that Guardiola is preparing for after telling the media that the Gunners won’t be going away anytime soon despite two failed title bids.
At a price of +175, Arsenal do offer considerable value given how much experience they would have gained in going toe to toe with City for the last 24 months.
It does, as ever, though, always come down to how much you want to bet against City. In these instances, it might be better to back Mikel Arteta’s team with a new customer offer from a sportsbook as this would mitigate your risk.
Of course, you will still have to deposit a small fee to claim any welcome bonus but again, you have options to reduce your initial outlay by finding the lowest accepted amount. Sportsbooks don’t always match the value on offer from online casinos, whose their minimum deposit opening offers are considered the best in the online betting industry. Deposit matches of as much as 150% are usually reserved for casino play, too. But you will still be able to find an offer that diminishes the risk of betting against Guardiola's juggernaut.
The fight for the Premier League's soul
There is a long way to go before the 2024/2025 Premier League winners are crowned given that the European summer has just begun.
However, this upcoming season might be the most defining title race in a generation. Picking a winner isn't straightforward but preparations to stop City have already begun, only time will tell if they will be successful.
