Wells Fargo Championship Betting Preview

The PGA Tour picks things back up this week in Charlotte, North Carolina as many of the best in the world will tee off for the Wells Fargo Championship. Two notable names will be missing, however, and they just so happen to be the top two ranked players in the world - Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler.

While Rahm and Scheffler take the week off, notable storylines include Rory McIlroy's return after multiple weeks off due to "personal reasons", Tony Finau looking to go back to back after his win last week at the Mexico Open, and Patrick Cantlay with a notable new caddie with a big reputation. Read on to see our model's winner picks.

Best Bets to Win the Wells Fargo Championship

The favorite according to our model this week is Patrick Cantlay, who is the second-favorite behind Rory McIlroy according to sportsbooks, listed at +1400 odds. Cantlay made headlines this week when it was reported that he has hired Tiger Woods' caddie, Joe LaCava to be on his bag for the foreseeable future. LaCava has been Woods' caddie since 2011 and has also worked with Dustin Johnson and Fred Couples.

With LaCava on the bag, Cantlay could be primed for a string of success. His last two finishes at the RBC Heritage and the Zurich Classic found him in the Top 5, and he is still looking for his first win on the season despite four separate T5 finishes. It's only a matter of time before he gets one, and DimersBOT gives him a 9.3% probability to win the tournament, which makes our best bet Patrick Cantlay to win, at +1400 odds.

Other favorites for our model this week include Xander Schauffele (+1600) and a longshot winner in Tyrrell Hatton (+4800), but we're going back to the well for one more pick here, and that's the winner of last week's Mexico Open, Tony Finau.  Finau was dominant from star to finish, leading from Friday through Sunday and holding off world #1 Jon Rahm in the process. Finau has been known to string multiple wins together, and at a course that relies upon big hitters to find the fairway, there's nobody better off the tee than Finau with the way he drove the ball last weekend.

We're rocking with Cantlay to win, but we recommend betting Tony Finau to finish in the Top 10 (+165). At plus money, it's a safe play given his current form. While we wouldn't be surprised if he wins the whole tournament, this feels like the best value on the board.
