NFL Week 9 Best Bets and Picks - Early Games

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions - 1:00PM ET

It's really hard to find reasons to believe in the Packers right now. While both of these teams are struggling coming into this game, this has to be a game that Detroit feels like it can win. After all those years of the Packers beating up on the Lions, this will mean more to them than it will to Aaron Rodgers and Co.

Green Bay's locker room is probably very fragile right now, with Rodgers already unhappy and the Packers then opting to do nothing at the trade deadline. He should find some success against a miserable Lions defense, but maybe Detroit will be a little more energized by the change it made in getting rid of its defensive backs coach this week.

Also, the Lions have the ability to score on any team in the league when they're rolling, and we just wouldn't be surprised if they put up a big number in this one. This is just likely to be a high-scoring game that goes back and forth and we'd rather have the points in this situation. Green Bay is also just 4-6 against the spread in dome games under head coach Matt LaFleur, which is hard to ignore when you consider the team's 36-26 ATS record in all games with him as coach.

PICK: Lions +3.5 (-110 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots - 1:00PM ET

The Colts are 8-0 against the spread in road games versus teams that allow 4.5 or more yards per carry over the last three seasons. And even though Jonathan Taylor's status in this game is up in the air, it's just hard to see Indianapolis' running game not being a little too much for New England to have to deal with. Deon Jackson had a big game when he filled in for Taylor in Week 6 and the Colts would have no problem giving him chances again.

Indianapolis also has a mobile quarterback now and that will make things a little tougher on New England's defense. Sam Ehlinger might not be ready to light up the Patriots, but he is capable of getting the ball into the hands of his playmakers and he isn't a statue in the pocket like Matt Ryan was. That should be enough on offense for the Colts, who have a defense capable of completely shutting down Mac Jones and a lousy Pats offense.

Look for this to be a game that comes down to the wire and don't be shocked if Indianapolis actually wins it outright.

PICK: Colts +5.5 (-107 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

NFL Week 9 Best Bets and Picks - Late Games

Los Angeles Rams vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 4:25PM ET

The Buccaneers are coming off an ugly loss against the Ravens and some people are going to have a hard time trusting them because of that. But this is now a must-win situation for Tampa Bay and the team has had a few extra days to prepare for a Los Angeles team that has also been rather unimpressive lately. That should mean we'll see a good version of a Tampa Bay defense that is very talented. And the Bucs should also be able to get back to the drawing board on offense.

The Rams also enter this game after having lost three of their last four games, and they have also failed to cover in three of their last four. Last week's loss was particularly alarming, with the Rams getting blown out by the 49ers. It's just hard to get over that performance, especially with Sean McVay's team now needing to go on the road.

Also, while this is something of an absurd angle when betting a game, it should help Tom Brady that he has some closure in his personal life. He and his wife officially filed for divorce the Friday after last week's Thursday night game. You'd have to think that he'll find a way to focus now that the situation is resolved — even if it's one that surely stings. Perhaps we'll get a big game out of the GOAT because of that.

PICK: Buccaneers -3 (+105 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
