Titans vs. Jaguars: NFL Predictions for Saturday, January 7, 2023

The Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars will be battling it out for the AFC South when the two meet at TIAA Bank Field in Florida at 8:15PM ET on Saturday, January 7. It seemed somewhat innocent at the time, but Jacksonville's first victory over Tennessee in Nashville since 2013 back on December 11 eventually set up this AFC South title showdown on the final week of the regular season. Find out how we think this one will play out in our Titans vs. Jaguars betting preview. We're going to give you some in-depth analysis, as well as the NFL predictions from our predictive analytics model and world-class artificial intelligence. The Super Bowl is right around the corner, so we're pulling out all the stops.

Neither team needed to win in Week 17 to make this a do-or-die affair. The Titans rested many starters, including Derrick Henry, and fell at home to Dallas last Thursday night to drop to 7-9. Tennessee hasn’t won a game since Nov. 17. The Jaguars, meanwhile, romped to their fourth straight and won for the fifth time in six games, 31-3, at Houston, to get to .500.

Titans vs. Jaguars Odds and Betting Lines

Will The Titans Cover The Spread?

Considering Titans quarterback Josh Dobbs, signed off Cleveland’s practice squad, had no time to learn the playbook leading up to the Dallas game, he passed the eye test and will get the nod over rookie Malik Willis.

Dobbs is a dual threat who spread the wealth in his first start and can keep Jacksonville’s defense from pinning back and sending the kitchen sink. Dobbs targeted veteran Robert Woods nine times, rookie Treylon Burks eight times, and tight ends Austin Hooper and Chigoziem Okonkwo a combined 10 times in the 27-13 loss to the Cowboys.

Will The Jaguars Cover The Spread?

Momentum and confidence, as well as home-field advantage, is all with the Jaguars.

Trevor Lawrence has taken his game up many notches over the second half of the season and has undoubtedly led Jacksonville’s playoff push under first-year head coach Doug Pederson — who won a Super Bowl in 2018. Lawrence threw for a career-high 368 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a score in its 36-22 win over Tennessee last month.

Defensively, the Jags allowed 117 yards and a touchdown to Henry but sacked since-injured Ryan Tannehill four times and had four takeaways.

Why The Over Will Hit

The Jaguars have soared to the No. 7-ranked offense in the league, one that averages 365 yards per game. Since their bye prior to Thanksgiving, they’ve scored 28, 36, 40 and 31 in wins, with a little help from the defense in an OT victory over Dallas three weeks ago.

Still, Jacksonville ranks No. 26 in total defense and Tennessee isn’t much better at 23rd, including second-worst against the pass, so both offenses can be expected to move the ball. The presence of Henry would obviously go a long way in the visitors holding up their end of the bargain here.

Why The Under Will Hit

The Titans’ defense has had a rough time lately but remains second-best against the run (80 ypg.) The unit bottled up Travis Etienne in the first meeting. Etienne had only 32 yards on 17 carries with his longest rush covering only seven yards.

During its six-game slide, Tennessee has scored 16, 10, 22, 14, 14 and 13 points. It might take a lot of work from Jacksonville for this Under not to hit.

Titans vs. Jaguars Prediction

Lean: Jaguars -6.5

The performances and body language of both teams have been on display since the first meeting. Look for the Jags to complete what not long ago seemed an impossible path to the division title.
