Steelers vs. Ravens: NFL Predictions for Sunday Night Football on January 1, 2023

The Pittsburgh Steelers can really help their playoff hopes by earning a win over the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday, January 1. This Week 17 matchup should be extremely fun to watch, even if Lamar Jackson ends up sitting another week with his injury. This is a classic AFC North rivalry, so these teams will play some smash-mouth football here. Find out how we think this one will play out in our Steelers vs. Ravens betting preview. We're going to give you some in-depth analysis, as well as the NFL predictions from our predictive analytics model and world-class artificial intelligence

The Steelers pulled off a last-minute comeback against the Las Vegas Raiders last Saturday night to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Pittsburgh is one of a handful of AFC clubs still alive for the last remaining wild-card spot. The Ravens have already punched their playoff ticket and can still win the division.

Steelers vs. Ravens Odds and Betting Lines

Will The Steelers Cover The Spread?

Pittsburgh’s formula for victory will be protecting the ball from Baltimore’s aggressive defense and having more success than it did on the ground in Week 14.

Kenny Pickett has nine interceptions (five touchdowns) and a 75.4 QB rating in 11 appearances, so it’s crucial for the running game to make something happen. Second-year back Najee Harris did find the end zone against the Ravens last time, but he managed only 33 yards on 12 carries. Rookie backup Jalen Warren had just five touches in the game.

Will The Ravens Cover The Spread?

When these teams met three weeks ago, Baltimore earned a typical blue-collar, 16-14 win on the road despite the absence of Jackson, who could miss a fourth straight game due to a knee injury. Head coach John Harbaugh said after Baltimore’s victory over Atlanta last Saturday his team’s playoff status won't affect when Jackson returns; it's unclear if backup Tyler Huntley will remain under center for this rematch.

The Ravens knocked Pickett out of the first meeting on his first pass attempt but will hope to have the same success as they did against Mitchell Trubisky, who threw three interceptions that afternoon.

Why The Over Will Hit

It’s usually a defensive slugfest when these hated rivals do battle. Week 14’s 30-point total was more the norm than the exception, but you never know when one of these defenses is going to also step up and score.

The winning team in this series hasn’t scored more than 20 points in any of the past four meetings. And while there may not be five touchdowns in this matchup, consider both kickers can be counted on to contribute to the total.

Why The Under Will Hit

Both teams could turn to its running games. The Ravens almost assuredly will after J.K. Dobbins (120 yards, one touchdown on 15 carries) and Gus Edwards (66 yards on 13 carries) bulldozed their way through Pittsburgh’s defense last month.

The Steelers won’t ask Pickett to do too much through the air, especially early in the game in a hostile environment even though he’s won back-to-back road starts.

Steelers vs. Ravens Prediction

Lean: Steelers +3

The Steelers outgained the Ravens in the first meeting by 20 yards and gave Huntley (8-for-12, 88 yards) headaches on passing downs. Lean towards Pittsburgh in another nailbiter.
