Steelers vs. Colts Odds and Betting Lines

Why Steelers Will Cover The Spread

Better defense.

The Steelers have allowed 35 and 37 points in two of their last three games and need to perform more like they did two weeks ago when they shut down New Orleans in a 20-10 victory. Last Sunday, they allowed 408 yards to the Bengals despite forcing Joe Burrow (four touchdowns) into a pair of interceptions.

Matt Ryan is more prone to mistakes at this stage of his career and if Pittsburgh can dial up the pass rush, a turnover or two could turn this game to its favor.

Why Colts Will Cover The Spread

Pittsburgh is a missed Bengals extra point in the opener from being winless on the road. The Steelers have dropped four straight away from home while averaging a shade under 11 points per game in those defeats.

Indianapolis is trying to prove all the doubters wrong on what most people deem to be a bizarre coaching change. Jeff Saturday’s first move as interim head coach was to give the offense back to veteran quarterback Matt Ryan after the unit had no pulse in Frank Reich’s swan song.

Why The Over Will Hit

It’s hard to believe only two teams are allowing more passing yards than the Steelers, so Ryan (10 touchdowns, nine interceptions, sacked 29 times in nine games) will need to take some shots downfield to Michael Pittman, Parris Campbell and Alec Pierce and test Pittsburgh’s weak spot.

The Colts also have a healthy Jonathan Taylor. Since sitting out Week 9, he’s rushed for 147 yards in a win over the Raiders and followed with 84 yards against the Eagles. He scored touchdowns in both games.

Why The Under Will Hit

It’s no surprise 40 points is the water mark for this one.

The Steelers don’t play a lot of high-scoring games, although two of their last three surpassed the total including a 67-point explosion last week with the Bengals in town.

Indianapolis ranks fifth in the league in total defense and 24th in total offense, while the Steelers are an uncharacteristic 28th in total defense and 27th in total offense.

Steelers vs. Colts Prediction

Lean: Colts -2.5

This should be a promising matchup for both defenses, resulting in a low-scoring battle where one of the kickers could decide it late. Slight lean towards the Colts, who have a little bit more to play for at this stage.
