Cowboys vs. Titans: NFL Predictions for Thursday Night Football on December 29, 2022

The Dallas Cowboys head to Nashville for a meeting with the Tennessee Titans for Thursday Night Football at 8:20PM ET on December 29. The Cowboys are still in the midst of a battle for the NFC East after having defeated the Philadelphia Eagles last week. They will, however, need to win the rest of their games, and they'll also need the Eagles to lose the rest of theirs. Meanwhile, the Titans can make the playoffs by defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars in a Week 18 battle for the AFC South. And a win here doesn't exactly do much for them. With that in mind, it'll be interesting to see how seriously Tennessee takes this game. Derrick Henry is already listed as questionable and could be held out so that he's ready for Jacksonville. Find out how we think this one will play out in our Cowboys vs. Titans betting preview.

Cowboys vs. Titans Odds and Betting Lines

Will The Cowboys Cover The Spread?

They really should. This game means a lot more to Dallas than it does Tennessee, and the Cowboys are also a lot more talented than their opponents here. Not only is Ryan Tannehill out for Tennessee, but Henry is banged up and there's no guarantee he'll play.

Without having to deal with the Titans' two best players, the Cowboys defense should have no trouble getting the opposing offense off the field. And Dallas' offense holds up pretty well against everybody, so Dak Prescott and Co. should be able to score enough points to win this game comfortably.

Dallas is also 10-0 against the spread after having allowed 6.0 or more yards per play in its previous game over the last two seasons. So, you can count on a bounce-back game once defensive coordinator Dan Quinn sinks his teeth into some film.

Will The Titans Cover The Spread?

Tennessee has won money for bettors in similar spots, so you can't rule it out. The Titans are 9-6 ATS when playing as home underdogs under Mike Vrabel, and they're also 14-9 straight-up and 15-8 ATS when playing as underdogs of 3.5 to 9.5 points in that span.

It'll take a creative offense game plan to manufacture enough points to cover. But the defense genuinely has what it takes to keep the Titans in any game, so we wouldn't blame anyone for taking the points.

Why The Over Will Hit

The Over has a chance because the Cowboys have the ability to score in a hurry. Dallas is averaging 37.0 points per game over the last two weeks and has scored at least 40 points in three of its last six games. With the Cowboys clicking like that, the Titans might not have to do all that much for this game to go Over the total.

The Over has hit in each of Dallas' last five games, and it's also 8-4 in the December games the Cowboys have played under Mike McCarthy.

Why The Under Will Hit

While there are some trends that suggest this game can go Over, the Under is 7-4 in the 11 games that Dallas has played as a road favorite under McCarthy. Now, he brings his elite defense into a matchup with a Tennessee team that could have a very hard time scoring.

With the Cowboys being second in the league in DVOA on defense, it's going to be challenging for Joshua Dobbs — who is starting over Malik Willis — to find a way to get in a groove. He hasn't been with this Titans team for long, and not having Henry to help in the running game is only going to make things more difficult.

Cowboys vs. Titans Prediction

Lean: Under 42

The Titans just don't have much that makes us excited offensively, and the defense is good enough to keep the Cowboys from completely going off here.
