Commanders vs. Eagles Odds and Betting Lines

Why The Commanders Will Cover The Spread

Despite squandering a second-half lead against the Vikings on Sunday, Washington is a much more confident team than the Eagles saw six weeks ago.

The Commanders have developed a trend for tight games over the past month, beating the Bears 12-7, the Packers 23-21, the Colts 17-16, and losing 20-17 to Minnesota. Taylor Heinicke will make his fourth start at quarterback and has provided a shot of adrenaline to the offense since taking over for an injured Carson Wentz. Heinicke has six touchdowns (one rushing), three interceptions, and a 91.9 rating.

Why Eagles Will Cover The Spread

With nearly half of the regular season in the books, the road to the Super Bowl in the NFC is pointing through the City of Brotherly Love.

Philadelphia handed Washington a 24-8 loss back in Week 3, with the Jalen Hurts-DeVonta Smith connection doing most of the damage. Smith had eight catches for 169 yards and one touchdown. But the Commanders can ill afford to gear their defensive scheme towards the former Heisman Trophy winner with A.J. Brown on the opposite side. Brown also reached paydirt that day and has five touchdowns in the last three games.

Why The Over Will Hit

Plenty will have to change from the first meeting for this total to be surpassed. The teams combined for 14 punts in that game and both offenses struggled on third down, with the Eagles converting just five of 15, and the Commanders only six of 17.

Philadelphia rolled up 400 yards at Washington and after a scoreless opening quarter, the Eagles exploded for 24 points in the second. The Commanders managed only 240 yards that afternoon with a pair of turnovers. That simply can’t happen again if 45 points or more is the wager.

Why The Under Will Hit

Only one of Washington’s last seven games has hit the Over (after Weeks 1 and 2 easily surpassed the respective totals) and that was by a slim margin when it faced Green Bay three weeks ago.

As dynamic as Hurts and the entire offense has looked at times, the Eagles’ defense is flying under the radar and not getting headlines. They rank third in total defense and passing defense.

Commanders vs. Eagles Prediction

Lean: Commanders +11

The Eagles took the Texans lightly last Thursday night and found themselves locked in a battle until talent prevailed in the second half. Improving Washington can keep this one close for certain.
