49ers vs. Seahawks Computer Picks, NFL Odds and Prediction for Thursday Night Football on December 15, 2022

The Seattle Seahawks are in desperate need of a victory, but it'll be hard when they host the red-hot San Francisco 49ers in the Thursday Night Football game at 8:20PM ET on December 15. After a great start to the year, Seattle is just 7-6 right now, with the team coming off a bad loss to the Carolina Panthers. Now, the Seahawks find themselves in a situation in which they'll be back at .500 if they lost to a 49ers team that is 9-4 and has won each of its last six games. Find out how we think this one will play out in our 49ers vs. Seahawks betting preview.

If you haven't already, you should consider signing up for DraftKings ➡️ here ⬅️ as you can turn a $5 pre-game moneyline bet on any game into a free $150 if your team wins.

49ers vs. Seahawks Odds and Betting Lines

Why 49ers Will Cover The Spread

This is arguably the best team in football right now. People can rip running backs all they want, but San Francisco has taken things to another level since acquiring Christian McCaffrey from Carolina. McCaffrey also happens to be coming off his best game in a 49ers jersey, as he rushed 14 times for 119 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 34 yards and a score.

San Francisco is also the second-best defensive team in the NFL, according to DVOA. That's going to be important against Geno Smith and a Seattle offense that has underperformed in the second half of the year. The 49ers also won by 20 when these teams met earlier in the season.

Why Seahawks Will Cover The Spread

While Brock Purdy played well as a starter last week, he's still largely unproven at this level. And the Seahawks are not an easy opponent for a young quarterback that might not be full of confidence. Seattle isn't elite defensively this season, but the team is solid on that side of the ball. And the crowd is definitely going to give the Seahawks some adrenaline, while also getting in Purdy's head a bit.

Under Pete Carroll, the Seahawks are also 24-13 against the spread as underdogs of 3.5 to 9.5 points. Seattle is also 20-8 ATS as a home underdog in that span, and the team is also 20-8 ATS when coming off a home loss under Carroll.

Why The Over Will Hit

The Over has hit in three of the last four games that the 49ers have played, with San Francisco scoring at least 33 in each of those three contests. This offense has been extremely explosive with McCaffrey in the fold, and the team didn't look like it missed a beat with Purdy in there last week.

With that in mind, it isn't out of the question that the 49ers score a bunch here, and the Seahawks are also capable of getting it going with their passing game. Considering the total is low, it would be understandable for anybody to want to take the Over.

Are the Niners in for a big Thursday night? Gab Goudy and Parlay Jay are riding along on this week's Prop or Chop.

Why The Under Will Hit

The Seahawks might be in a tough place in the running back room, but they still want to try and run the ball — and the same goes for the 49ers. If this is going to turn into a game with two teams looking to control the clock, you'll want to be on the Under. And the fact that it's a Thursday night game doesn't hurt either.

It just shouldn't surprise anyone if this turns into an ugly, low-scoring affair. Purdy struggling would make that extremely likely.

49ers vs. Seahawks Prediction

Lean: Seahawks +3.5

It's extremely hard to go against the 49ers right now, but Purdy could get rattled in a tough road environment. We think this one will come down to a field goal late in the game.
