NFL 2022: MVP Picks and Betting Odds

The 2022 NFL season is fast approaching which means it's time to start looking at where the value lies for the MVP award.

After Aaron Rodgers won his fourth MVP award in 2021, the race to be crowned the NFL's best regular season player is set to be tight once again.

The betting favorite right now is Josh Allen of the Bills, with former winners Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes and Rodgers all hot on his tail.

Top Pick - Josh Allen

After starting the 2021 season as a +1200 MVP shot, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills finds himself as the outright favorite for the award in 2022.

The 6-5, 237lb quarterback out of Wyoming improved in each of his first three seasons in the NFL before taking a slight backwards step last year. But now as we enter the 2022 season, Allen has the chance to announce himself as the stand-out QB in the league.

After throwing 36 and 37 TDs in each of the last two seasons, Allen has the ability to go for a similar number again whilst also getting rushing yards and TDs.

When asked about Allen's MVP hopes, 2018 winner Patrick Mahomes was full of praise, stating "he gets those rushing yards man, that dudes over there hurdling over people, getting those highlights.”

In his 2019 MVP year, Lamar Jackson threw for 36 TDs whilst rushing 80 yards a game and scoring 7 TDs on the ground. These numbers are certainly not out of the picture for the Bills superstar.

Value Bet - Matthew Stafford

Rams QB and Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford is currently +1500 to win the 2021 MVP and presents the best value amongst the second tier of guys.

After leading the Los Angeles Rams to a 12-5 regular season record and Super Bowl LVI win, Stafford won many plaudits but few awards. This is the year he can get his dues.

Stafford will again have one of the best receiving groups in the NFL to throw to, with Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson and new recruit Allen Robinson II leading the line at WR alongside Tyler Higbee as the main TE.

Add this to the increased focus their opponents will need to have on the ground with RB Cam Akers returning to full fitness, and Stafford should be able to shine once more.

Of the 16 games that have odds on DraftKings Sportsbook right now, the Rams are favored in 13 of them and have one game listed as a pick 'em. If they increase their wins from 12 last season, Stafford will end the season in many MVP voting ballots.

Dark Horse - Jonathan Taylor

If you're looking for even more value in the NFL MVP betting market, it might be advisable to scroll down past the leading quarterbacks and bet on Colts running back, Jonathan Taylor.

As you can see in the list below, there's been just one non-QB win the MVP over the past ten years, and it was exactly ten seasons ago now with Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings taking out the award in 2012.

The Indianapolis Colts finished the 2021 regular season with a record of 9-8 and there was still some chatter about Taylor being the MVP. Imagine if they can get up around that 12 win mark.
