NBA First Basket Plays Wednesday February 9, 2022

Spurs vs. Cavaliers, 7:00PM ET

Caris LeVert on debut at +800 was looking like the play here, but with the former Pacer set to come off the bench, we're pivoting to the safer play.

Jarrett Allen is usually a popular choice with most First Basket bettors due to his ability to win the tip regularly against his opponents and he finds himself in a good spot to give the Cavs first use of the ball tonight against the Spurs and Jacob Poeltl, a man he has never lost an opening tip to (2-0 in past career meetings).

With Darius Garland back in the lineup tonight, we can expect him to get straight back to feeding Allen, with an opening alley-oop a strong possibility.

Bulls vs. Hornets, 7:30PM ET

Even though Mason Plumlee has had the wood over Nikola Vucevic on tips when going head-to-head in their meetings, we're just not satisfied of the Hornets' ability to convert even if Plumlee was to make it 3-0 in tips this season against his foe in red. Charlotte have been badly down on offense over the past five games, averaging just 97 points per game on 39% shooting. The Bulls love to set Vucevic up for the first basket of the game, with players in the C position for Chicago hitting the first team basket a staggering 20 times this year. Don't stress too much if Plumlee gains possession off the tip for the Hornets because there will be ample opportunity for Vooch to take care of business.

Raptors vs. Thunder, 8:00PM ET

Scottie Barnes is expected to face off against Derick Favors to kick things off in Oklahoma City and things don't look good for Scottie. Barnes only wins around one in four tip-offs which means that it'll most likely be OKC getting the chance to open things up. With no Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, it'll fall on Lu Dort to be the main offensive threat for the Thunder and he's a regular when it comes to the first basket with the Thunder looking to the small forward on a regular basis.

Warriors vs. Jazz, 10:00PM ET

Utah will be without Rudy Gobert, but they still have a good chance of pouring in the first points. Udoka Azubuike has been more than admirable contesting the opening tip for the Jazz, winning 50% of the time which has lead to Utah recording the first basket in 67% of their games over their last 20. Royce O'Neale has been the hot man for the 33-21 Jazz and looks good to continue his roll in igniting the offense early.
