76ers vs. Heat, 7:30PM ET

PICK: Total points UNDER 208.5 (-105)

No Embiid, no hope for the Sixers? That's what the sportsbooks think as Philadelphia miss their injured star for the indefinite future, with a 7.5-point spread for the Heat to begin Game 1. Much has been made of James Harden's current form and whether he has lost a step and can be 'that guy' anymore, but it will be interesting to see how he reacts in the series opener. For Miami, they've been a solid defensive unit over the entire season, but particularly in their first round matchup against the Hawks in which they held their opponents to sub-100 scores in 3 out of their 4 wins. With so much of the unknown about how the 76ers will respond to the Embiid injury, the total is the safer play here.

Mavericks vs. Suns, 10:00PM ET

PICK: Mavericks +5.5 (-105)

After squeaking by the Pelicans in 6 games in the first round, and with a clearly still-injured Devin Booker, is this going to be a more competitive series than we once thought? The Mavs lack overall star power aside from Luka Doncic, but they have shown that they are a cohesive team unit with good role players and great shooters from range. Our projections have Dallas keeping things tight in Game 1.
