NBA Betting Trends Reveal Most Profitable Teams in the 2024-25 Season Based on Dimers NBA Predictions

The NBA Playoffs tip off on Saturday, April 19th and we are looking at how to profit over the next several weeks until the NBA Finals with a comprehensive analysis of our best bets this season.
One of our new features we're working on behind the scenes is a retrospective look at the results of every best bet on Dimers - if you've been on our site, you know that between our Best NBA Bets, valuable NBA Player Props, NBA Playoffs Predictions, and player prop trends, we have dozens of betting opportunities every day, which can be hard for a single user to keep track of.
That's why our talented team of data scientists have built us a results model that calculates the return on investment (ROI) of every bet in all possible edge ranges from the season to date.
Using this, we can find the teams in the bracket that returned the most profit over the course of the season.
What is ROI in betting?
Return on Investment (ROI) in gambling is a metric used to measure the profitability of bets over time. It is calculated as the net profit or loss from wagers divided by the total amount wagered, expressed as a percentage. The formula for ROI in gambling is: ROI=(Total Profit/Total Amount Wagered) × 100.
For example, if a bettor wagers $1,000 over a period and ends up with $1,200, the profit is $200. The ROI would be (200/1000) × 100 = 20%. A positive ROI indicates profitable betting, while a negative ROI means losses. In sports betting, maintaining a positive ROI over time is challenging due to the house edge, vig (also known as the juice), and market efficiency. Successful bettors focus on finding value bets, our top priority at Dimers, where the odds offered are better than the actual probability of an event occurring.
Managing bankroll and understanding expected value (EV) are key to improving ROI. Even professional sports bettors typically have an ROI between 2-5% over the long run. Casual bettors should focus on disciplined bankroll management, line shopping, and utilizing Dimers edges to maximize their ROI and minimize losses.

Dimers' Most Profitable NBA Bets from the 2024-25 Season
Before we dig in to the teams and scenarios which made us the most money this season, it's important to note that each of these will feature one team and one betting market out of the Moneyline, Spread, or Total.
Every bet referenced will have been recommended via our Best NBA Bets page with a Dimers edge between 0-10%, and on the consensus odds across all sportsbooks. We're using a minimum of 10 bets to avoid small sample sizes.
For the team listed, that means that the displayed ROI is based on all bet recommendations that featured that team as one of the participants in their respective game.
For example, a 55% ROI on all Bucks Spread bets would mean that ROI is representative of anytime we recommended a Spread bet in a game that featured the Milwaukee Bucks; that could mean we recommended the Bucks to cover, or the other team to cover, whichever it was for that particular game based on our model's predictions. This is to narrow down which teams overall the model was most accurately reading in each of these three markets, whether it was fading or backing that team.
A high ROI on Moneyline bets means our model correctly predicted some longshot upsets, dramatically increasing the ROI due to the limited number and high odds of the bets placed. Positive ROI on Spreads and Totals suggest the situations where the Dimers model was most consistent.
In the final column, you'll see if those numbers are based off the opening line (our model's first prediction and opening odds) or the closing line (our final pre-game probabilities based on the final odds available).

Top Teams by Opening Spread ROI
Los Angeles Clippers: 20.26% ROI (27 bets)
Denver Nuggets: 16.72% ROI (36 bets)
Detroit Pistons: 10.90% ROI (31 bets)
The Clippers lead the way in our most profitable opening line spread bets, likely thanks to their elite defense keeping scores low and tight.
Behind them are the Nuggets, who they'll face in the opening round of the NBA playoffs. Value may be hard to come by in this series, but check our Nuggets-Clippers prediction for our model's pick to cover the spread in Game 1.
Top Teams by Closing Spread ROI
Indiana Pacers: 20.06% ROI (35 bets)
Boston Celtics: 6.83% ROI (59 bets)
Minnesota Timberwolves: 4.18% ROI (44 bets)
When it comes to the closing spreads, the Pacers are the most profitable team from 2025 by a large margin. Users who bet $10 on every Pacers spread bet would have seen a profit of +7.2 units.
Top Teams by Opening Moneyline ROI
New York Knicks: 11.76% ROI (40 bets)
Houston Rockets: 10.79% ROI (53 bets)
Los Angeles Lakers: 7.59% ROI (47 bets)
The New York Knicks narrowly edged out the Rockets as our best team to bet alongside our model's ML picks in games featuring New York.
They'll face the Pistons in the first round, who were one of our model's best teams on the spread, so be on the lookout for both ML and Spread edges in this first round series.
Top Teams by Closing Moneyline ROI
Boston Celtics: 17.17% ROI (25 bets)
Oklahoma City Thunder: 11.19% ROI (27 bets)
Los Angeles Lakers: 5.67% ROI (41 bets)
The Lakers returned a modest but consistent profit regardless of their opening or closing line, suggesting minimal movement and sharp early lines by the books.
Boston was the most profitable at the closing line, but will be heavily favored in their first round games and difficult to bet on in this market, both for them and the big underdogs in the Orlando Magic.
Top Teams by Opening Over/Under ROI
Milwaukee Bucks: 52.80% ROI (48 bets)
New York Knicks: 38.91% ROI (11 bets)
We saw some big returns in the totals market, by far our most profitable. No one returned more profit than the Bucks - whether we were picking over or under, our model was dialed in on Milwaukee's games.
The Knicks games were also lucrative, yielding nearly a 40% profit across just 11 bets.
Top Teams by Closing Over/Under ROI
New York Knicks: 27.33% ROI (12 bets)
Indiana Pacers: 11.97% ROI (29 bets)
Milwaukee Bucks: 9.14% ROI (14 bets)
The Knicks proved profitable both on early and closing lines, while Milwaukee saw a big drop when taking their total bets late in the day, meaning they were best tailed early on when the books first opened up shop.
Key Takeaways
After breaking down each market, team and line, we can deduce the following:
Most Profitable Team: Milwaukee Bucks, especially at opening lines on the Total
Most Profitable Market: Totals - opening and closing lines yielded strong returns
Best Time to Bet: Opening lines - higher ROI on early lines suggest sharp corrections by the books over time
