Three Things To Know Before Betting On Knicks vs. Grizzlies

1. Tom Thibodeau's Group Competes

Since Thibodeau took over as the Knicks head coach, the team is 32-23 against the spread when playing as a road underdog. They're also 18-12 ATS as a road underdog of six points or less in that span. So, while Memphis is definitely the stronger team in this one, you shouldn't count out the possibility of New York keeping this game close — or potentially stealing it.

2. New York's 104 Million Dollar Man

The Knicks haven't had a good point guard in a very long time, but they signed Jalen Brunson to a big deal in the offseason. He's probably a little overpaid right now, but he's not going to look out of place as a starter. Brunson is a really good scorer at his size and that will take a lot of pressure off his teammates to create. Guys like RJ Barrett and Julius Randle were being asked to do too much with the ball in their hands last year, so they should bounce back now that they're in more comfortable roles. Randle has already looked pretty good during the preseason, which is nice after a year in which he really struggled to replicate his All-Star 2020-21 season.

3. Grizzlies Banged Up

Memphis is going to be without Jaren Jackson Jr. for the start of the season, as the big man is recovering from surgery he underwent to fix a stress fracture in his right foot. Jackson is one of the best two-way bigs in the game, so he'll be missed greatly in a game like this. The Grizzlies will also be without Dillon Brooks in this one. Brooks has his faults as a tunnel-vision scorer, but Memphis will miss his ability to get buckets. Ziaire Williams is also out for the Grizzlies. He's an emerging wing and could have been useful with Brooks injured.
