NBA Betting: Three Things To Know Before Betting On Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, October 19

The Phoenix Suns get a shot at revenge for last year's embarrassing Game 7 performance in the Western Conference Semifinals, as they're hosting the Dallas Mavericks in their season opener at 10:00PM ET on Wednesday, October 19.

Dimers' free betting picks for Mavericks vs. Suns, plus our score prediction, best odds and player props, are featured in this article.

Three Things To Know Before Betting On Mavericks vs. Suns

1. Truth To COVID-19 Rumblings?

There are some rumors floating around that part of the reason the Suns fell apart in Game 7 is that they had a COVID-19 outbreak that left multiple players and staffers sick. If playing through that is the reason Phoenix got embarrassed by Dallas, you'd expect the Suns to come out and take care of business against the Mavericks in this one. They've been an NBA punchline all summer because of the way they flamed out last year, and they should want to use that as fuel here. Everybody in the world has seen the picture of Luka Doncic smiling while looking at Devin Booker in the midst of the Game 7 blowout. That's prime bulletin board material for Phoenix. However, not having Jae Crowder's veteran leadership in the locker room is a blow for the Suns.

2. Home-court Advantage

Since Monty Williams became the head coach of the Suns, his team is 33-12 against the spread when playing as a home favorite of six or fewer points. Phoenix won those games by an average of 9.3 points per game, and that would allow the Suns to comfortably cover here. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 10-14 ATS as road underdogs of six or less points under Jason Kidd, so that same situation hasn't treated them well.

3. JaVale McGee In A New Uniform

One interesting tidbit when looking at this game is that McGee left the Suns to sign with the Mavericks this summer. That can either give Phoenix even more fuel to go out and win this game — and the team does appear to have struck gold in signing backup center Jock Landale — or it will give Dallas a better understanding of how the Suns operate. Regardless, McGee makes for a nice pairing as a pick-and-roll partner for Doncic, and he's also a good rim protector on the other end of the floor. But if Phoenix gets him isolated in space on the perimeter, Booker and Chris Paul will take turns cooking him.
