MLB Futures 2022: Looking Back at Our Preseason World Series Predictions and Futures Bets

The MLB regular season is over and done with and we have postseason baseball to look forward to beginning from this weekend.

Now that the hustle and bustle is finished, it's time to look back and reflect how our preseason World Series predictions are shaping up as we head into playoffs.

Just like last year, we're going to be giving away 10% shares in our bets to five lucky Dimers followers for each futures bet across the Wild Card weekend and beyond as our two teams advance further through the postseason, with the remaining 50% going towards the Cleveland Guardians' Charities and Atlanta Braves Foundation if either bet hits.

Just after Opening Day, our Dimers predictive analytics model simulated the 2022 MLB Season 10,000 times to try and figure out which team exactly would be the one taking home the coveted Commissioner’s Trophy at year’s end.

After the simulations had run, each team was assigned a probability of their chances of winning the World Series, relative to how they performed in the data model simulations. We then took those probabilities, compared them to the Sportsbooks' odds and found three teams who had the biggest differential in odds compared to our probabilities. That formed the basis of our 2022 MLB Futures Predictions.

This was of course after we did the exact same thing in 2021 which lead to our three preseason bets all still standing at the AL and NL Championship games.

While there is still a lot of baseball to be played, this year's results have been just as encouraging.

How we bet the 2022 World Series

After last year's raging triumph, you didn't think we would let the powerful DimersBOT MLB model feed us this information again without putting a little action on it ourselves, did you?

Yesssir, we took the company chequebook and sprinkled a little on each of our World Series predictions at the start of the year and now we're ready to share those tickets with you.

Here is what you can win a share of:

  • Braves to win the World Series: $650 to win $8,450
  • Guardians to win the World Series: $100 to win $10,100

How you can cash in with Dimers

We're going to be giving away 10% shares to five followers for each our out stakes across the Wild Card weekend and beyond as our two teams advance further through the postseason.

The remaining 50% will be donated to either the Cleveland Guardians' Charities or Atlanta Braves Foundation if either team wins the World Series.

The preseason strategy

Atlanta Braves to win the World Series

  • Dimers' probability to win the World Series at the beginning of the season: 17.5%
  • Implied odds based on their probability: +470
  • Current best available odds: +500 with BetMGM
The Bet: We invested $650 to win $8,450 (+1200) with BetMGM.

We're on the Braves to win the World Series at their preseason odds of +1200 and they're now obviously much shorter at +500. Much in the same way that they did last year before winning the 2021 World Series, the Braves began 2022 slowly, at some stages falling as far back in the NL East division by more than 10 games behind the Mets. But good teams never say die, and the Braves rallied hard to win the division in the final week of the regular season and get the all important bye through the Wild Card round, as well as not having to face the current World Series favorites, the Dodgers, in the NLDS. Everything is falling into place for Atlanta, and although they are third-favorite in the betting markets for the World Series, they shouldn't be counted out to go back-to-back.

Cleveland Guardians to win the World Series

  • Dimers' Probability to win World Series at the beginning of the season: 1.3%
  • Implied odds based on their probability: +7600
  • Current best available odds: +3500 with DraftKings
The Bet: We invested $100 to win $10,100 (+10000) with BetMGM.

We're on this years' Cinderella story, the Cleveland Guardians, to win the World Series at their huge preseason odds of +10000 and they're now obviously much shorter at +3500. When our DimersBOT MLB model signalled to us at the beginning of the season that the 100/1 Guardians were a team that we should be betting on to win the World Series, not even we could have imagined what was about the transpire.

Cleveland has been nothing short of amazing this season; a year that was expected to be a rebuilding one. The Guards went from the most extreme of underdogs to AL Central division winners and with a legitimate chance to make a deep postseason run.

Boston Red Sox (eliminated) to win the World Series

  • Dimers' probability to win World Series at the beginning of the season: 6.1%
  • Implied odds based on their probability: +1540
  • Best available preseason odds: +2200 with PointsBet
  • Current best available odds: Eliminated

We were on the Red Sox to win the World Series at their preseason odds of +2200, but unfortunately they've now been eliminated. Boston were one of the Cinderella stories of last year, reaching the ALCS before falling to the Astros. Their stellar form in 2021 gave our MLB model confidence heading into 2022 that they could replicate that success, but unfortunately for the Sox, a mixture of bad form, injuries, and a better AL East division overall with the Yankees, Blue Jays, Rays and Orioles all having great seasons, made it extremely hard for them.
