Which MLB team is hot right now?

Riding an 8-game win streak into Wednesday’s action, the defending World Series
champion Atlanta Braves are firmly established in the top wild-card position with
a six-game cushion over Philadelphia and 7 ½ games ahead of non-playoff
positioned San Diego.

The Braves rank second in the league in runs and third in homers, as well as sixth in ERA. Let’s see how they fair against the Mets’ Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrob in the next 48 hours. The NL East will get interesting fast if Atlanta sweeps New York.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

Last in the league in batting average and next-to-last in runs scored, the Oakland
A’s have suffered more L’s than any team in the American League and were once
again sellers at the trade deadline.

The A’s snapped a 9-game losing streak last night with a victory in Texas behind newly acquired pitcher JP Sears, who threw five scoreless innings. Top prospect Shane Langeliers was just recalled and will look to provide a jolt for Oakland over the last six weeks.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Veteran southpaw Drew Smyly has appeared in 232 games over a 9-year career in
the majors that began in Detroit after he was drafted in the second round in 2010.
Today, he’ll make his 150th career start when the Cubs take on the Nationals in an
afternoon tilt on getaway day.

Smyly pitched lights-out for Chicago in each of his past two starts, throwing 11 2/3rds scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts against Miami and Cincinnati. The latter five innings came in the Field of Dreams game in Iowa. He’s 5-6 with a 3.69 ERA and could be a sneaky fantasy play today.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

In mid-July, veteran and former Cy Young winner Cory Kluber was toting a solid
3.58 ERA and impressive 1.09 WHIP for the Rays, who became his fourth
different team in as many seasons.

Kluber’s past five outings, however, have been troubling to say the least. After allowing 7 runs on 10 hits against Baltimore last week, his ERA swelled to 4.40 and his WHIP jumped to 1.19. Tonight he faces his 2021 employers, the New York Yankees, in the Bronx. He’s been tremendous against them twice already this season, allowing one earned run in 12 innings.
