Which MLB team is hot right now?

Hot doesn’t even justify how well the Los Angeles Dodgers are playing these days. They’ve got the best record in baseball (76-33) and are in cruise control in the NL West with a 16-game cushion over second-place San Diego.

The Dodgers lead the majors in ERA and have won 12 of their last 13 while allowing three runs or fewer in all but two of those contests. They’ll look to youngster Ryan Pepiot to take Clayton Kershaw’s (back) spot in the rotation for at least a few turns, beginning tonight against Minnesota.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

The Detroit Tigers are not scary cats. Scary bad, maybe. They’re bringing up the rear in the AL Central after going 2-8 in their last 10 to fall 25 games under .500. Detroit is 30th in the league in runs scored and homers, and ranks 26th in batting average.

Big-ticket free agent SS Javier Baez leads the team in home runs (10, tied with Jeimer Candelario) and RBIs (43) but those are far from big numbers and he’s batting .223. The Tigers’ other major addition, OF Austin Meadows, has missed nearly 75 games due to various injuries and has no homers and 11 RBIs in 36 games.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Back in his old stomping grounds at Coors Field to start the week, St. Louis’ Nolan Arenado crushed Yankees pitching last weekend and will try to wreak havoc on his former club.

Arenado is riding a sweet 11-for-25 streak that includes 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 9 runs. With 22 dingers and 69 RBIs, he’s on pace to drive in more than 100 runs for the seventh time in his career, with the Covid-impacted 2020 campaign the only hiccup.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Boston Red Sox right hander Nick Pivetta, who gets the nod against the Braves tonight at Fenway Park, entered July with an impressive 3.23 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.

Things have changed quite a bit, however, over his last 6 starts. He’s allowed at least seven hits in each of those outings and three times was hammered for at least six runs. His ERA has swelled to 4.51 as a result, and his WHIP inflated to 1.33. Atlanta’s lineup will make a sudden turnaround a challenge to say the least.
