MLB Betting Insights 09/6/2022

Which MLB team is hot right now?

Suddenly, the St. Louis Cardinals have the third-biggest cushion of any division leader in baseball. They’ve won 8 of their last 11, despite a clunker against the visiting Nationals on Labor Day that nobody saw coming. St. Louis is only one-game over .500 (34-33) on the road but is doing some serious home cooking with a 45-23 mark at Busch Stadium.

The Cards are huge favorites tonight to stay hot, sending trade deadline acquisition Jose Quintana to the bump against Washington’s Paola Espino, who doesn’t have terrible numbers but is winless in six decisions. After being blanked, look for St. Louis to respond.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

The Cleveland Guardians no longer have breathing room in the race for the AL Central division crown. Losing five straight games before edging Kansas City in extra innings last night, and going 3-8 in the past 11 will have that affect, even if the Minnesota Twins haven’t been all that hot themselves lately with a 6-5 mark in their last 11.

A huge three-game series between the Guardians and Twins looms on the horizon this weekend. But it could be the Royals, a team Cleveland plays eight more times including tonight with Shane Bieber on the mound, who determine the outcome of the division.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

It hasn’t been a memorable season for the Boston Red Sox, but SS Xander Bogaerts is closing 2022 with a rush. With a .400 average since mid-August and an even crazier 17-for-33 streak (.515) over the past eight days, he’s now locked in a battle with Minnesota’s Luis Arraez for the American League batting title.

Bogaerts has multiple hits in 11 of his last 12 games and is hitting .317 on the year with 12 home runs, 63 RBIs and 8 steals. He’s 0-for-5 in his career against Tampa righthander Drew Rasmussen, who faces the Sox tonight.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

The defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves are hot. SS Dansby Swanson is not but surely capable of waking up tonight in Oakland against lefthander Cole Irvin. The Braves were off yesterday and traveled, giving Swanson some time to recharge his batteries while in a 3-for-22 (.136 avg.) slump with no homers and 3 RBIs in the past seven games.

His average has dropped 19 points since Aug. 2 to .282, which would still be the single-season best of his career. Bet on a resurgence from Swanson.
