Which MLB team is hot right now?

With a sweep of the visiting Yankees over the weekend, the St. Louis Cardinals zoomed right on by the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Central lead. The Cards have won seven in a row and are 9-1 in their last 10 games and suddenly hold a two-game cushion in what’s been down to a two-team division race since May.

Six of St. Louis’ next nine games are against Colorado, beginning tonight at Coors Field. Ride the birds!

Which MLB team is cold right now?

The San Diego Padres made the most noise of any team at the trade deadline, adding the biggest fish on the market (Juan Soto) along with arguably the best closer in baseball (Josh Hader) and one of the best switch-hitters (Josh Bell) in the game.

However, the new-look Padres were swept by the Dodgers in Los Angeles and slipped 16 games off the pace in the NL West after Monday night’s loss to San Francisco.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

A stress reaction is his back cost Tampa Bay’s Brandon Lowe much of the first half of the season. Lowe raked at the dish in 2021, crushing 39 homers and driving in 99 runs in a breakout year.

He was activated from the IL on July 16 and appears to be finding his way at the plate. Since the 30th, he’s 10-for-28 (.357 avg.) with a pair of homers and 10 RBIs. He’ll face Brandon Woodruff in Milwaukee tonight.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

After going 4-for-5 on July 6, Minnesota’s Luis Arraez upped his average to .354 and appeared well on his way to winning the American League batting title. Even for a phenomenal contact hitter as Arraez is, that pace would’ve been almost impossible to keep up for an entire season.

He’s dipped quite a bit over the past month and enters tonight’s game in L.A. against the Dodgers at a more realistic .329 clip.

MLB Players Born on August 9

Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers isn’t a household name but he’s been a consistent player in a full season and a half for the Colorado Rockies since they selected him No. 3 overall in the 2015 draft.

He turns 26 today. Last year, Rodgers appeared in 102 games and belted 15 homers with 51 RBIs and batted .284. He has similar numbers this season through 98 games heading into tonight: 10-51-.277 when he’ll face St. Louis’ Miles Mikolas.
