MLB Betting Insights 08/16/2022

Which MLB team is hot right now?

Despite dropping the second game of a double dip on Monday, the Cleveland
Guardians continue to play tremendous baseball and hold a 2-game lead over
Minnesota and Chicago in what promises to be a race to the finish in the AL
Central.

The Guardians are 8-2 in their last 10 and received a promising start from
struggling Aaron Civale in the first game of the doubleheader with Detroit as he
fanned 10 in a no-decision. Hard-luck Zach Plesac (2-10, 4.32 ERA) gets the nod
tonight against the Tigers.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

The Toronto Blue Jays have not only been unable to gain any ground on the
struggling New York Yankees over the past 11 games, they’re barely clinging to a
playoff spot after dropping 8 of 11. Toronto leads the majors in batting average at
.263, yet it has managed just eight runs over the past four games. OF George
Springer returned from injury last night, and ace Alek Manoah gets the rock
tonight in another key matchup with Baltimore.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Who leads the majors in hits over the past couple of weeks? You probably
wouldn’t guess Chicago White Sox OF Eloy Jimenez, who’s riding a 24-for-59
(.407) streak. Jimenez, who has dealt with some serious injuries throughout his
young career, is a key ingredient to Chicago’s playoff hopes. In 42 games heading
into tonight’s matchup against the ageless Justin Verlander, Jimenez has 6 homers,
26 RBIs and a .305 average.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

It’s a good thing Jimenez is tearing the cover off the ball lately, because teammate
Yoan Moncada is not. Moncada, also no stranger to the trainer’s room, is 10-for-
54 in August with 19 strikeouts…although he did come up with a clutch 2-run
single in last night’s win over Houston.

He has one homer and 7 RBIs over the
same stretch, and the slump has caused his average to dip under the .200 mark on
the season over 71 games. Going up against Verlander isn’t likely to change
Moncada’s fortunes.
