Which MLB team is hot right now?

Hearing footsteps from Tampa and Toronto, the New York Yankees continue to make punching bags of the Minnesota Twins and gained a half-game in the standings yesterday. The Yanks swept a pair from the Twins in the Bronx and have won four in a row. New York is now 48-20 at home heading into the series finale against Minnesota tonight, followed by a weekend visit from the Rays. Aaron Judge belted home run No. 55 yesterday and is 1-for-3 in his career against Sonny Gray. The Yanks send Nestor Cortes to the mound in his first start since an IL stint with a groin issue.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

The Miami Marlins are 0-for-September so far. They’ve dropped nine consecutive games and last celebrated a victory on Aug. 27. Tonight they’ll turn to ace Sandy Alcantara to put out the fire against Philadelphia, and even he has encountered some tough outings as of late.

Alcantara has allowed six earned runs in two of his last three starts. He can’t count on much run support — the Marlins have produced just 14 runs during the 9-game slide.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

If you’ve never heard of T.J. Friedl, maybe it’s time to pay attention to the Cincinnati Reds outfielder as he’s likely auditioning for a starting job in 2023. Never drafted, he just turned 27 years old a month ago and entered this season with only 31 career at-bats in the big leagues.

He has 147 at-bats this year and is hitting a solid .279 with 5 homers, 19 RBIs and 8 stolen bases while primarily facing righthanded pitching. He’s 17 for his last 39 (.436) with 4 homers and 10 RBIs and will look to keep swinging a hot stick against the Cubs’ Adrian Sampson this afternoon at Wrigley.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Toronto slugger Vlad Guerrero Jr. is scuffling as of late although he’s making contact with only four strikeouts in 32 at-bats going back to last week. The problem is, he’s not getting on base or jogging the bases. Mired in a 4-for-32 slump (.125) with no homers and 2 RBIs in the past seven games, he gets much-needed day off today before trying to make some noise Friday against Texas and Dave Dunning.

On the year, the 23-year-old Guerrero has 27 homers, 82 RBIs and a .275 average.
