MLB Betting Insights 08/25/2022

Which MLB team is hot right now?

Now 30 games over .500 and just a game-and-a-half off the pace in the NL East, the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves could be in the catbird seat before the weekend is up.

The Braves rank in the top 10 in most major statistical categories: 8th in batting average, 3rd in runs, 2nd in homers, and 5th in ERA. Rookies Michael Harris and Vaughn Grissom have been huge contributors to the surge. Atlanta gets some rest today and begins a weekend series on the road against equally hot St. Louis on Friday.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

Are the San Diego Padres playoff contenders or pretenders? After completing a sweep of Colorado on Aug. 3, the Padres were 15 games over .500 and basking in the glory of adding Juan Soto, Josh Bell and Josh Hader.

Fast forward three weeks and they’re sitting at 10 games under .500 after going 4-7, with Hader removed from the closer role temporarily following multiple meltdowns.

A six-game road trip begins in Kansas City on Friday and it’s imperative for the Padres to take advantage of a lesser opponent. So far this month they’ve stumbled against Miami and Washington.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

A salary dump by Cincinnati in March, 3B Eugenio Suarez is putting together a productive season in his first year with Seattle despite a .228 batting average and a whopping 165 strikeouts in 123 games.

Those uninspiring numbers are something the Mariners can live with if he’s going to belt more than 30 homers and drive in 100 runs. Suarez over the past week is 7-for-19 (.368) with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs. He’ll be licking his chops this afternoon against Washington’s Anibal Sanchez.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

With SS Tim Anderson on the shelf, White Sox manager Tony LaRussa has employed veteran OF A.J. Pollock in the leadoff spot more often than not and the decision hasn’t worked out well so far.

Despite more consistent playing time, Pollock has cooled considerably over the last week as Chicago keeps spinning its wheels in the AL Central race. He’s on an ugly 5-for-39 skid with no extra-base hits, no homers and one RBI dating back to Aug. 16. He’ll face Jordan Lyles in Baltimore tonight who he’s 4-for-13 lifetime against.
