Which MLB team is hot right now?

The Toronto Blue Jays were too talented not to get back in the American League playoff race, right? The Jays beat up on a fading Boston Red Sox pitching staff over the weekend, including a franchise-record 28 runs on Friday night.

Toronto, which leads the majors in batting average, is riding a six-game winning streak and has won eight of 10 with a day off before heading to St. Louis tomorrow with the inconsistent Jose Berrios on the bump.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

It wasn’t long ago the Texas Rangers were making a push for .500 and second place in the AL West behind the Houston Astros. But it seems long ago. After losing a weekend series in Oakland of all places in their first action out of the break, the Rangers saw their record dip to 43-51.

They’ve lost six of their last eight games and are quickly fading as they head to Seattle. Texas can dial up the long ball, ranking among the Top 10 teams in homers, but it doesn’t do anything else particularly well.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Called up from Triple A Round Rock in mid-June, outfielder Leody Taveras has bolstered Texas’ offense in many ways. He’s been on quite a roll since the beginning of July, going 23 for 60 (.383) with two homers, 15 RBIs and five stolen bases.

While he’s not much of a power source with only 10 long balls in 115 career games, he’s finding holes in the defense and can boost your daily fantasy lineup with a steal. Taveras faces Chris Flexen in Seattle tonight.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Heading into tonight’s game in Baltimore, Tampa’s Isaac Paredes is still looking to recapture his June magic. July has been a month to forget so far. Parades is batting well under .200 this month with just two homers — both in the same game — and six RBIs.

Have pitchers figured him out? The current slump dropped his average on the year to .216, but he does have 13 homers and a positive strikeout rate, so he has the tools to rebound.

MLB Players Born on July 25

Darick Hall

With reigning MVP Bryce Harper sidelined, Darick Hall has provided a nice lift for the Phillies offense since a promotion to the bigs. While he’s not facing much left-handed pitching, Hall is showing the ability to do damage against right-handers. He turns 27 on Monday.

He’s hitting .261 with five homers and nine RBIs but can afford to cut down on the strikeouts. He should be in the lineup tonight against Atlanta’s Spencer Strider.
