MLB Betting Insights 08/22/2022
Which MLB team is hot right now?
The Chicago Cubs were riding a five-game winning streak and had Milwaukee on the ropes midway through Sunday’s contest before faltering. Still, the Cubs are 7-3 in their last 10 games and finding ways to win the close ones — their five wins last week were by a total of six runs.
Both Ian Happ and Willson Contreras were expected to be sent packing at the trade deadline, but neither was dealt and they’ve been carrying the offense throughout August. Starting tonight they’ll try to play spoiler against the first-place St. Louis Cardinals.
Which MLB team is cold right now?
You know things aren’t going well for the Miami Marlins when they can’t get the job done with Cy Young candidate Sandy Alcantara on the mound. Alcantara had arguably his toughest outing of 2022 on Sunday in a 10-3 loss to the Dodgers when he allowed 10 hits and 6 runs while being lifted in the fourth inning.
The defeat was Miami’s fourth straight and eighth in 10 games. During the four-game slide, it has been outscored by a margin of 29-7. The Marlins have a much easier assignment to start this week with a three-game set in Oakland.
MLB players: Who is in hot form?
Any number of NL-Central leading Cardinals would qualify under this “Who’s Hot” notation, but how about Albert Pujols? Over the past week-plus, the 42-year-old future Hall of Famer has blasted 5 home runs and knocked in 11 in just 17 at-bats.
He’s hitting .600 during the streak and now heads to the friendly confines of Wrigley Field for a three-game set starting tonight against Drew Smyly. Pujols is sitting at 692 career homers and his current .858 OPS is on pace to be his best since 2012.
MLB Players: Who is out of form?
Oakland’s Seth Brown can be a useful fantasy OF on any given day, but lately those days have been few and far between. Brown is just 8-for-48 over the past two weeks for a .167 batting average. He has 15 strikeouts over the same timeframe, including a hat trick yesterday, and just one home run and 3 RBIs.
While he doesn’t offer much in the way of batting average (.227 on the year), he has 17 homers, 49 RBIs and 8 steals, so if the value is there, use him in a bounce-back scenario especially against right-handed pitching.
