Which MLB team is hot right now?

So much for a letdown. The New York Mets, on the heels of taking a pair from the New York Yankees to start last week, went to South Florida and swept three games from the Marlins and outscored them 16-7 in the process.

The Mets upped their winning streak to six games and are about to get a major shot of adrenaline tomorrow with the season debut of Jacob deGrom. But first things first…tonight they’ll turn to Max Scherzer for the series opener against the Washington Nationals in D.C.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

Over the past 10 days, the Tampa Bay Rays have lost five games and one spot in the standings to the division rival Toronto Blue Jays. Tampa, which is 3-7 in its past 10 games including a loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday that saw ace Shane McClanahan suffer his worst outing of the season, hosts Toronto for a short but important two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Rays rank fourth in MLB in ERA (3.44) but in the bottom half of most major statistical categories.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Sometimes you’ve just got to mention the obvious. Aaron Judge is on pace to set a New York Yankees single-season home run record (Roger Maris’ 61 in 1961) and could also threaten the MLB mark based on his recent explosion. Judge is 23 for his last 51 with 12 homers and 26 RBIs and completely obliterated the Kansas City Royals pitching over the weekend, including his 200th career home run.

Only Ryan Howard (658 games) reached 200 career dingers faster than Judge, who needed 671.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

There’s no debating C.J. Cron is having a phenomenal season. The Colorado Rockies first baseman has been tearing the cover off the ball, just not so much over the past few weeks so it might be time to pump the brakes on him until further notice. Cron is mired in a 6-for-44 slump with one homer and two RBIs and 17 strikeouts during the same span.

The Rockies are in San Diego tonight and will face Mike Clevinger.

MLB Players Born on August 1

Aledmys Diaz

With the way the Boston Red Sox are giving up runs since the All-Star break, it could be a fun birthday for Houston Astros shortstop Aledmys Diaz tonight when he faces Nathan Eovaldi. Diaz has been swinging a pretty consistent bat as of late and raised his average 25 points since June 1. He turns 32 on Monday. He went 1 for 4 on his birthday last season.
