MLB Betting Insights 09/9/2022

Which MLB team is hot right now?

The city of Seattle is abuzz over the Mariners, who fell painfully short of a wild-card spot in 2021 and do not want to disappoint their faithful again. Seattle is sizzling at 8-2 over its last 10 but begins a difficult 5-game stretch tonight against the defending champs at T-Mobile Park.

The Braves visit for a three-game series, followed by a two-game visit from the Padres. The Mariners have a 4 ½-game cushion in a wild-card spot with 25 games remaining. Ride the wave of emotion!

Which MLB team is cold right now?

Even if the Oakland A’s won their final 24 games this season, they’d finish 14 games under. 500. The A’s were officially eliminated from the playoffs earlier this week (unofficially they were out of contention by late May) and are in a battle for the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft along with Washington and Pittsburgh.

Oakland is 3-7 in its last 10 and has allowed 31 runs in three games since shutting out Baltimore last Sunday. James Kaprielian takes the mound tonight against a desperate White Sox team he held to one run over six innings on July 29.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Part of the blockbuster trade which sent Juan Soto and Josh Bell to San Diego, Luke Voit has been relatively quiet at the plate since being acquired by Washington but he is 5-for-7 over the past two days with nine total bases so he’s heating up. The power-hitting 1B/DH is just one homer away from reaching 20 for the third time in his career, but most of his damage came while with the Padres.

In 30 games with the Nationals, Voit is 27-for-108 (.250) with 36 strikeouts, 6 homers and 12 RBIs. He could finally be trending upward and is 2-for-3 lifetime against tonight’s opposing pitcher Noah Syndergaard.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Much like the team he plays for, Wilmer Flores is in the middle of a cold spell. The San Francisco SS is just 3 for his last 29 (.103) heading into this afternoon’s tilt against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Flores is 1-for-2 career against Drew Smyly.

On the season, Flores has been solid with 17 home runs and 63 RBIs. However, his batting average sits at .237 compared to a career mark of .265 over 2,750 at-bats prior to 2022. Maybe the friendly hitting confines of Wrigley will trigger a wake-up call.
