MLB Betting Streaks Tuesday June 21, 2022: Who's Hot, Who's Not and Where You Should Bet

Betting on baseball is all about knowing who's hot and who's not.

Dimers.com contributor Tony Bellissimo tours both camps in today's edition of Who's Hot and Who's Not.

Which MLB team is hot right now?

The Cleveland Guardians are suddenly in the AL Central race after winning 15 of their last 19, including an impressive short trek out west and crossing over to take 5 of 6 against the Rockies and Dodgers.

Interestingly, the Cleveland Guardians were one of three pre-season futures bets recommended by the Dimers predictive analytics model at huge odds of +10000. You can read more about those World Series bets here.

Due to an upcoming makeup, 8 of Cleveland’s next 11 games are against division rival and frontrunner Minnesota, with the other three against improving Boston. The Guardians, the youngest team in baseball, are sixth in ERA (3.57) and will be tested by the Twins, who rank eighth in batting average at .251.

Which MLB team is cold right now?

The Detroit Tigers are among the worst teams in baseball as July approaches, particularly on the road. Heading into Tuesday’s game at Fenway Park, the Tigers (26-41) are 8-19 away from Comerica Park following Monday’s loss to the Red Sox in the series opener.

Big-name acquisitions Javier Baez (4 HRs, 18 RBIs) and Austin Meadows (no homers, 11 RBIs) are struggling, as is prized rookie Spencer Torkelson (.194 avg, 4 HRs, 16 RBIs) as he adapts to major league pitching.

MLB players: Who is in hot form?

Still flying under the radar on a staff that includes Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler and Jose Urias, there’s no debating Tony Gonsolin has been one of the most effective starting pitchers in baseball so far.

Heading into Tuesday night’s game at Cincinnati, Gonsolin is a perfect 8-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. He’s worked six strong innings in six straight starts. He faced the Reds April 15 when he was amping up his workload and allowed no runs and three hits in four innings.

But with no more than 55 innings in any of his three previous seasons, and at 63 heading into tonight, keep a close watch on this guy as his usage surpasses 100 innings.

MLB Players: Who is out of form?

Aaron Civale’s MLB career has been a roller coaster ride. He had a fine 2019 rookie campaign for Cleveland with a 2.34 ERA in 10 starts, regressed to a 4.74 ERA over 12 starts the following year only to reemerge last season as a viable starter.

He made 21 starts in 2021, winning 12, and had a respectable 3.84 ERA. So far, this season has been a nightmare for Civale, who is returning from a glute injury tonight to face Minnesota.

He’s towing an ugly 7.84 ERA over 31 innings and was hammered by the Twins on May 13, yielding six runs on seven hits, including two homers, in 4 2/3rds.
