Miami Heat's Terry Rozier Under Investigation by Federal Proscecutors for Alleged Ties to Gambling Scheme
Miami Heat SG Terry Rozier is reportedly under investigation by federal prosecutors for his alleged role in an illegal gambling scheme.

As of today, January 30th, 2025, Federal prosecutors are investigating allegations that Miami Heat player Terry Rozier intentionally manipulated his on-court performances as a member of the Charlotte Hornets in a previous game vs. the New Orleans Pelicans as part of an illegal gambling scheme, the same one that resulted in a lifetime NBA ban for former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter last year, as reported on by Dimers.
The probe is part of a broader federal investigation into match-fixing in professional sports that found Jontay Porter guilty of exploiting his position within the NBA to produce certain outcomes, according to the Wall Street Journal.
At this time, Rozier, 30, has not been charged with any crime, and it remains unclear whether authorities have determined he played a role in assisting gamblers. However, the NBA has confirmed that it was first alerted to suspicious betting activity related to Rozier nearly two years ago.
"In March 2023, the NBA was alerted to unusual betting activity related to Terry Rozier’s performance in a game between Charlotte and New Orleans," per NBA spokesman Mike Bass. "The league conducted an investigation and did not find a violation of NBA rules. We are now aware of an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York related to this matter and have been cooperating with that investigation."

Rozier, who was playing for the Charlotte Hornets at the time of the flagged game, has not publicly addressed the allegations. The Miami Heat, his current team, has reportedly declined to comment.
Regarding the game in question, a March 23, 2023 game vs. the New Orleans Pelicans Rozier was but subbed out with a foot injury after just ten minutes, with reportedly a large amount of money being bet on his unders for that game, despite being in the midst of a an impressive streak of performances. Rozier finished with 5 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 10 minutes.
The latest story to break around professional athletes being tied to gambling underscores the increasing scrutiny on sports betting and its potential influence on professional athletes. Rozier, a respected veteran in the league, has been a key contributor off the bench for the Heat this season, averaging 12.1 points 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game.
As the investigation unfolds, questions remain about whether Rozier’s betting-related activities will result in any disciplinary action from the NBA or legal consequences from federal authorities.
