NBA Rookie of the Year Picks
ROTY favorite - Evan Mobley
Why he will win:
The no. 3 pick from the most recent draft, Evan Mobley has come into the NBA and made an immediate impact on both ends of the court, averaging 14.9 PPG offense and being the third ranked defensive player in the entire league according to statmuse.
The frontcourt of Mobley and Jarrett Allen has been a big reason for the Cavs' resurgence this season, with the rookie actually finding himself as the eighth favorite for DPOY!
Mobley has been described as a 'Unicorn' all season, with his skills in all facets of the game making him look like a third or fourth year league player already.
If the Cavs continue to play as well as they are, with Mobley providing huge benefit on both sides of the court, he's very likely going to become the first big man to win ROTY since Karl-Anthony Towns in 2016.
What might stop him:
As good as Mobley has been in the first two thirds of the season, there's a reason guards have dominated this award for so long.
If the big man begins to tire as we approach the end of the regular season, his stats could drop, opening the door for a guy who continues to get better such as Josh Giddey.
As much Mobley is the rightful favorite and likely winner, his odds of -500 simply can not be bet right now.
ROTY threat - Josh Giddey
Australian Josh Giddey is looking to become the second straight ROTY to have come from the Australian NBL, after LaMelo Ball claimed the award last season.
A 6'9 guard that can score, rebound and rack up assists is always going to catch the attention of fans in his rookie season and with Giddey coming into this break on the back of three straight triple doubles, he's found himself as the second favorite for the award.
Giddey's run of triple doubles includes a 28-11-12 effort in a big win over the Knicks at MSG. A game-winning display like this that everyone was tuning into is one thing that Evan Mobley is yet to achieve this season.
That performance in particular in sure to stick in voters' minds as they consider voting for the young OKC star.
