What is the $10 to $10K challenge?

Also known as the Ladder Challenge, the concept is simple: a bettor begins by placing a $10 bet on Day 1, generally by putting together multiple short-priced legs to combine for odds of close to +100, then rolling over the winnings into Day 2. And so on and so forth until ultimately, the $10,000 target is reached on Day 10.

BET WAGER ODDS PAYOUT
1 $10 +100 $20
2 $20 +100 $40

4 $80 +100 $160
5 $160 +100 $320
6 $320 +100 $640
7 $640 +100 $1,280
8 $1,280 +100 $2,560
9 $2,560 +100 $5,120

Has anyone won the $10 to $10K challenge?

Prior to their involvement as members of the Meezy's Picks VIP Gambling Discord, Hannah, a 28-year-old from Colorado, and Shane, a 33-year-old from Illinois, didn’t know each other. Brought together via the Discord community, they had seen the $10K Challenge attempted online before and were intrigued.

Shane, a capper in the Discord, who is also on Twitter under the handle @lockprops, told Dimers that members of their community had asked him to attempt the feat with Hannah - a Community Star in the chat.

“Our first attempt we failed pretty early into it, in our second attempt one leg was voided so we restarted it over,” Shane said.

The third time would eventually turn out to be the charm.

Originally setting out on the challenge in May 2022, the duo focused on a combination of basketball and baseball props to create their bets, which usually consisted of 1-3 legs, accounting for parlay odds of around +100.

But as many others have found time and time again, succeeding in the $10 to $10K Challenge is extremely difficult. In fact, we recently ran the numbers and discovered that by taking just one straight up bet at odds of +100 for 10 consecutive days, bettors would only reach the $10K figure in 1 out of every 1700 attempts.

STRATEGIES: The best ways to win the $10 to $10K challenge

Hannah, who goes by the Twitter username @BiggerTheBettor and worked with Shane in researching and deciding on which legs would comprise each day’s parlay, said that not thinking too far ahead initially was key.

“Honestly for me the first 3 steps were the goal. Get past step 3. But then we kept progressing,” she said.

“The goal then turned into just getting past step 5,

“And then it became: ‘well we made it this far we have to finish this'.”

Speaking about how he dealt with the nerves, Shane explained that the positivity within the Meezy's Picks Discord, which charges a monthly subscription fee for access to picks from professional bettors, was integral to the success.

“Around step 5 it started to feel very real to me,” he said.

“The positivity of the 10K Challenge channel in the Discord made the stress as minimal as it could be for such a big thing.”

Not all the positivity in the world could still quell those nerves for Hannah, though, who simply got to a point where she could no longer watch.

“Once step 7 hit I was pretty much ready to turn my tv and phone off until the games were over,

“All of the steps were equally as important, but around step 7 is when I really started to feel the pressure.”

But the bets kept hitting, and they kept climbing. Taking them to the final day: Day Number 10.

Needing Cedric Mullins and Michael Brantley to each record a hit to reach $10,000, the journey was complete after Mullins’ hit in the bottom of the 8th inning against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The $10 to $10K challenge: How to do it

Wondering what their advice is for bettors who are thinking about taking on their own?

“Don't feel like you have to get it done in 10 days,” Shane said.

“If the play isn’t there don’t force it.”

Hannah agreed with Dimers' analysis that less legs equals a better chance of success.

“Two legs is 100% easier than three or four. Even at a super alternate line that is offered by the sportsbooks, there are just too many variables with more legs.”

With MLB season on the horizon and the NBA season in full swing, neither has ruled out another attempt up the ladder, but for now they're just basking in the glory of this memorable $10 to $10K hit, below.

  1. Cedric Mullins 2+ Bases
  2. Al Horford 6+ Reb, Marcus Smart 4+ Ast, DJ LeMahieu 1+ Hit
  3. Tommy Pham 1+ Hit, Dansby Swanson 1+ Hit
  4. Freddie Freeman 1+ Hit, Ty France 1+ Hit
  5. Kyle Wright 6+ Ks, Ketel Marte 1+ Hit
  6. Marcus Smart 3+ Reb, Jayson Tatum 4+ Ast, Yordan Alvarez 1+ Hit
  7. Rhys Hoskins 1+ Hit, Sean Manaea 5+ Ks
  8. Lourdes Gurriel 1+ Hit, Shohei Ohtani 1+ Hit
