How to Bet The 2022 Formula 1 French Grand Prix: Can Leclerc Beat Verstappen Again?

Pop the cork and place your bets as the Formula 1 circuit rolls into France this weekend for the 2022 French Grand Prix at the Circuit Paul Ricard, a track that favors cars that excel at medium-speed turns.

Dimers.com F1 expert Brad Montagne takes a closer look the best bets in the French Grand Prix, the next-to-last before Formula 1's annual summer break.

2022 French F1 Grand Prix Bets

For the first time this season, Max Verstappen is a plus-money bet at +110. This is an interesting development as Team Red Bull's runaway favorite to win the points championship may be showing the field some vulnerability. Presumably, Verstappen's odds at the Circuit Paul Ricard have taken a downturn because the medium-speed turns are not a Team Red Bull specialty.

Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc, of Ferrari, has eyes and winning for a second straight race after winning two weeks ago in Austria.

Let’s take a look at the picks.

The Favorites: Verstappen or Leclerc?

Though not in the minus category for the first time in 2022, Verstappen is obviously still a strong bet and the overall favorite for the French Grand Prix.

LeClerc, at +170, is the best alternative to Verstappen, but Verstappen still has to be upset about losing to LeClerc in the last race, the Austrian Grand Prix on July 10 on what is essentially Team Red Bull's home track.

Ferrari’s reliability issues have cost them this year — as was evidenced when Carlos Sainz saw his engine blow out down the stretch in Austria, paving the way for Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton to reach the podium — and there’s no reason to believe there’s an end in sight to Ferrari's problems.

Add to that concern, Le Castellet has 93-degree temperatures forecast for Sunday, which doesn't lend a lot of confidence to a strong Ferrari performance.

Hamilton and Perez The Best of the Value Bets

For higher odds with better value, it gets really interesting this week. Lewis Hamilton has better odds than the Red Bull of Sergio Perez (+1300). That is quite a jump for Hamilton what will be his 300th Grand Prix start.

It’s worth noting that no Formula 1 driver has won a race after his 300th start. Hamilton is trying to buck the trend of a list that includes names like Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso and Ayrton Senna.

That being said I think a smart bet would be Hamilton at +650 because his car was just so strong in the last race.

Sergio Perez, of Team Red Bull, who last won at the Monaco Grand Prix, is also a great value bet at +1300.

Make sure you pick up some authentic French Champagne and a croissant or two to enjoy what should be an especially interesting race.
