Manchester City vs. Manchester United - Pick of the Day
Sunday, October 2, 2022 - 9:00AM ET
With United no longer consistent title challengers, the Manchester Derby has lost a bit of its shine, but it’s still a massive fixture for these sides and one of the most anticipated games of the season. And, with United on the rise since Ten Hag benched Harry McGuire for being a walking liability in the back line (I’ll miss you, sweet prince…), this match actually could be more interesting than many would have thought a month ago.
And, unlike Saturday’s derby, I think this one has goals in it. City average over 3.0 goals per game in the league, and even with some improved play on the defensive end I don’t see the Red Devils keeping Haaland and Co. off the score sheet. It might not be a massive number, but City find goals unless David de Gea puts on a godlike performance. But, while City will thrive offensively, they’ve proven to be less solid on the other end than in years past and I don’t trust them to keep United tied down either. Pep has allowed his team to be more aggressive tactically to take advantage of the talent up front, which works well if they get into a shootout (where nobody is going to keep up) but leads to chances for their opposition.
So, based on those assumptions, we can get to a fairly good bet by pulling together a couple of household favorites. Both Teams To Score is the obvious starting point from that analysis, and at -154 the price isn’t terrible. But, by adding on City Team Total Over 1.5 at (-310) we get to a very nice +101 on our odds for two outcomes I think are very likely.
As I mentioned, City score 3 goals per game so two, while potentially risky for a Derby, seems like a fair spot to get to. Normally I wouldn't want to get too complicated or overdo it on a match like this, but everything about my analysis works for both of these and I have no problem tagging one along with the other. It should be a fun battle to watch, and look for a few moments of magic to earn us the profit we crave.
PICK: Manchester City Team Total Over 1.5 + Both Teams To Score (+101 at Caesars, 1.5 units)
Betting preview: Arsenal vs. Tottenham
