Manchester City vs. Crystal Palace - Pick of the Day

And just like that, City are looking mortal … well, not really. More like demigods. To be honest, the number of games where this team can drop points is still very limited and away to a newly-rich Newcastle team was right on the fringe, but we did see some defensive frailty that will have Pep concerned long term. They aren’t going to cake walk through every weekend like they had been to start the year, but some matches will still be similar to a tank driving over a small speed bump.

Some might say Palace are good enough to be competitive here, and it’s not a completely unfair assumption. They pulled out a result against Liverpool and Patrick Vieira has things moving in the right direction. But they have a long way to go to go toe to toe with the big boys, and anyone who watched them drain clock against Liverpool like a bunch of scared rabbits despite being up a man will understand that.

So, obviously, we’re going to skew towards a City bet, and we’re going to take on a risky proposition here; City first half team total Over 1.5 (+168). There are a small number of teams who I’m willing to take this path with (Bayern, Ajax, PSG, etc.), primarily because they’re so good that they have a tendency to put games away early and coast for the second half. Crystal Palace aren't all that bad, but there are a few factors here that play in City’s favor; the aforementioned bad result that should push them a bit, Palace having a mid-week EFL match, and this game being in Manchester.

City are going to take the lion’s share of possession here and, with a week of Pep drilling them hard for their poor result at St. James. I expect the title holders to come out firing. At +168 for that prediction, the return is damn good as well
