Updated odds and projections for the New York Giants after releasing QB Daniel Jones.

Giants Release QB Daniel Jones
The New York Giants have released struggling QB Daniel Jones.

The New York Giants have officially released struggling QB Daniel Jones on November 22, 2024.

After his benching following the team's bye week in Week 11, speculation followed about how the Giants would handle his massive contract, in which he was due an average of $40M over each of the next two seasons.

Jones will hit waivers, where he's expected to clear due to the nature of his contract, while the Giants organization will take on $20M in dead money.

Further adding to the drama in New York, the franchise passed over listed second-string QB Drew Lock in favor of last year's viral sensation, Tommy DeVito, in a move that was sure to drum up any hype and put some seats in the stands, rather than give the team a serious chance at winning, as unsurprisingly, Dimers' NFL futures predictions, do not favor the Giants well in the wake of this move.

Why Did the Giants Release Daniel Jones?

Off to a 2-8 start, the New York Giants have failed to live up to expectations since Brian Daboll won Coach of the Year and they signed Daniel Jones to a $160M contract just two seasons ago.

Jones has an 8:7 TD:IBT ratio this season, with six games without a passing touchdown, an unsustainable model in today's NFL.

He hasn't thrown 20 touchdowns since his rookie season and his rushing production is way down, up to just 265 yards this season after hitting a career high of 708 two season ago.

This is more of a locked-in tank move for the Giants, who have no motivation to win another game this season as they look to lock in a top draft pick and reboot their offense in the offseason.

Updated Odds for New York Giants

The Giants enter their Week 12 matchup with the Buccaneers at 2-8 and in last place in the NFC East.

Entering this season they had just a 14.8% chance to make the postseason based on Dimers' NFL futures predictions.

They were predicted to finish this season with six wins though they will struggle to reach that mark, with their current Over/Under on their win total set at 4.5, with the odds at -135 to the under with Tommy DeVito at quarterback.

New York has a 0% chance to win the division, sitting at +200000 odds.
