Cowboys vs. Eagles Computer Picks, NFL Odds and Prediction for Sunday Night Football on October 16, 2022

On Sunday, October 16, the Dallas Cowboys will travel to Lincoln Financial Field for a meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles for a little Sunday Night Football. This highly intriguing matchup isn’t about the New York Giants, but imagine being 4-1 and technically in third place in the NFC East?

As if a Cowboys vs. Eagles battle needed any more fuel to the fire, how about a combined 9-1 record and a head-to-head clash of the NFL’s third-stingiest scoring defense (Dallas) and second-ranked offense (Philadelphia.)

Find out how we think this one will play out in our Cowboys vs. Eagles betting preview.

Cowboys vs. Eagles Odds and Betting Lines

Why The Cowboys Will Cover The Spread

Dallas’ defense isn’t alone riding an impressive streak. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush, likely to make one more start while Dak Prescott heals, hasn’t thrown an interception this season in 118 attempts. Rush has four touchdown passes and a 61% completion rate.

If Rush can take care of the football and block out the rabid Eagles faithful, this game should be tight all the way and come down to the fourth quarter. Although leading receiver CeeDee Lamb was nicked up in last week’s upset win over the defending champion Rams, the recent return of Michael Gallup provided Rush with another option downfield.

Why The Eagles Will Cover The Spread

With nearly one-third of the regular season in the books, most pundits have Jalen Hurts as the early frontrunner for MVP and with good reason — he’s thriving as the quarterback of the league’s lone unbeaten team.

The Eagles are piling up 420 yards per game and doing so with balance, with the No. 4 ground attack (160 yards per game) behind Hurts (266 yards, six touchdowns) and a healthy Miles Sanders (414 yards, three touchdowns)

While the Cowboys have yet to allow more than 19 points in any game, Philadelphia’s weapons and a third road trip in four weeks makes this a tall order to keep that streak intact.

Why The Over Will Hit

If the Eagles somehow jump out to a two-score lead and force the Cowboys to get away from their bread-and-butter (Ezekiel Elliot and Tony Pollard have combined for 553 yards rushing but only three touchdowns), the six-touchdown total could be had.

Both of last year’s matchups were out-of-control shootouts (41-21 and 51-26) and neither team will hold back against a hated rival. Philadelphia would be wise to keep a closer eye on Dallas tight end Dalton Schultz, who had two touchdown receptions in both 2021 meetings. He's expected to play this week after reaggravating his knee injury against the Rams.

Why The Under Will Hit

Both defenses are legit, starting with a Cowboys unit that registered five sacks and a touchdown against the Rams in Week 5.

As dynamic as Hurts and the entire offense has looked at times, the Eagles have also played strong on the defensive side of the ball, sans for allowing Detroit 35 points in the opener, and not getting a ton of recognition for it. The unit also will be playing with a chip on its collective shoulder after getting embarrassed twice by the Cowboys a year ago.

Cowboys vs. Eagles Prediction

Lean: Cowboys +6

The Cowboys lead this all-time grudge match by a 72-54 margin, including playoffs, and hung 92 points in two wins over the Eagles last season. The way Dallas is defending, points are precious.
