College Football: Biggest Winners and Losers from Week 7

The college football season is heating up as we enter the middle of October. There are 11 remaining unbeaten teams after USC, Oregon and Louisville all lost on Saturday. Here are Dimers’ three winners and three losers from Week 7 of College Football.

Before we dive in, you should know that it definitely pays to have more than one funded account with the best US Sportsbooks when betting on sports.

Winners

Washington

Washington had a statement victory on Saturday at home against Oregon. The Huskies and Ducks played an instant classic game at Husky Stadium. It was a game that featured elite offensive playmaking from the likes of Michael Penix Jr, Rome Odunze, Bo Nix, Troy Franklin and more.

However, the defensive plays might have been the difference in the game. Washington had three crucial fourth down stops. If the Ducks would have converted one or two of those fourth downs, this game could have had a different outcome. It’s truly a game of inches.

New Heisman Trophy Winner?

Caleb Williams took home the prestigious Heisman Trophy last season, and deservedly so. He proved on Saturday night that it is incredibly hard to win the award in back-to-back seasons. Williams’ three interceptions against Notre Dame may have taken him out of the race for the time being.

So, who is in the running? Well, Penix is second in the nation in passing yards, fourth in the nation in passing touchdowns, third in the nation in passing efficiency and 11th in the nation in completion percentage. He might be the front-runner in the Heisman Trophy race right now.

Punting

Punting is usually associated with offensive ineptitude. That is far from the case in the Big Ten West. More specifically, Iowa City. Iowa punter Tory Taylor had a great performance against Wisconsin in the Hawkeyes’ 15-6 victory.

Taylor punted 10 times for an average of 50.6 yards per punt. With Iowa’s victory over Wisconsin, the Hawkeyes are now in the driver’s seat in the Big Ten West division.

Losers

Texas A&M

Is Jimbo Fisher on the hot seat? Well, when you lose eight straight away games, dating back to 2021, at a program that should have National Championship expectations, you should be on the hot seat.

The Aggies allowed 232 rushing yards and 4.7 yards per carry to Tennessee on Saturday in a losing effort on the road. Texas A&M probably is not done losing on the road either as the Aggies will travel to Ole Miss and LSU later this season.

Louisville

Two things can be true at once. Louisville had a great run as an unbeaten team, but the Cardinals are not a College Football Playoff contender. Playoff contenders don’t lay an egg after a great win the week before. Louisville laid an egg.

Pittsburgh was winless against FBS competition coming into Saturday and the Panthers were starting a new quarterback after Phil Jurkovec was moved to tight end. Louisville had a minus-three turnover margin and lost 38-21 at Pitt to dash its hopes at an undefeated season.

People That Go to Bed Early

If you went to bed early on Friday and Saturday, you missed two incredible games in the state of Colorado. On Friday, Deion Sanders and Colorado had a 29-0 lead over Stanford at halftime. The Cardinal marched all the way back behind a 13 catch, 294-yard performance by Elic Ayomanor to win 46-43 in double overtime.

The next night, Colorado State came back from a 30-10 deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Boise State 31-30. The Rams scored 21 unanswered points and the final play was a 33-yard Hail Mary pass to win the game. Folks, don’t go to sleep until the clock hits zero.
