Winners

SEC’s best getting hot in November

Elite programs hit their stride in the month of November. That’s exactly what Georgia and Alabama are doing. Jalen Milroe might’ve had his best performance of the season as he threw for 234 yards and ran for 36 yards against Kentucky. Milroe had six total touchdowns in Alabama’s 49-21 victory.

After a shaky first quarter, Georgia’s defense played lights out against a great Ole Miss offense. The Bulldogs offense could not be stopped either. They had 300 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns collectively. Carson Beck also threw for 311 yards. The meeting between Alabama and Georgia in Atlanta is shaping up to be a classic.

Jayden Daniels makes his Heisman statement

Did anyone have a better performance in Week 11 than Jayden Daniels? The LSU quarterback exposed the Florida defense on Saturday night. Daniels threw for 372 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, he gained 234 yards and scored twice on the ground.

Both of Daniels’ rushing touchdowns came by way of the explosive play. He had an 85-yard score in the second quarter and then a 51-yard house call in the third quarter. Daniels’ five total touchdowns led LSU to a 52-35 victory over Florida.

Florida State, Oregon, Texas, Washington continue to win

While other contending teams are dominating opponents, sometimes just finding a way to win can get you in the College Football Playoff. Florida State, Oregon, Texas and Washington are all playoff contenders and they all won by less than 10 points.

The Seminoles remained undefeated by beating in-state rival Miami 27-20. Washington also remained unbeaten by defeating a tough Utah squad 35-28. One-loss Oregon beat USC 36-27 and one-loss Texas survived a comeback attempt by TCU to win 29-26.

Losers

James Franklin and Drew Allar

Nobody was under more fire after Saturday than James Franklin. In Penn State’s top 10 showdown against Michigan, the Nittany Lions scored a touchdown in the second quarter to cut the lead to 14-9. Franklin decided to go for a two-point conversion in the first half and they failed to convert. Even more confusing was Franklin’s decision to go for two late in the fourth quarter when down by nine points. Franklin’s in-game decision making was questioned heavily by the media and fans.

Drew Allar and the Penn State offense was also under fire. Allar was touted as one of the top quarterback recruits in Penn State football history. He has not lived up to that expectation against good competition. He was 10-for-22 for 70 yards against Michigan in the 24-15 loss. Another year and another finish outside of the top two in the Big Ten East for Penn State.

Jimbo Fisher’s reign at Texas A&M

The good news for Jimbo Fisher is that his team beat Mississippi State 51-10 on Saturday night. The bad news is that he got fired the very next day. Is Fisher really a loser of the week though? He will get paid over $70 million to not coach. I’d sign up for that in a heartbeat.

Everyone saw the writing on the wall with Fisher at Texas A&M. He did not win more than nine games in any of his six seasons with the Aggies. The best conference record he had, not including the COVID season, was 5-3 in 2018. At a place with abundant resources like Texas A&M, it is inexcusable how Fisher failed to progress and win at the highest of levels in college football.

Oklahoma State lays an egg

Oklahoma State was one of the hottest teams in the Big 12 heading into Week 11. The Cowboys won five straight games including wins against quality teams like Kansas State, Kansas and Oklahoma.

UCF put a halt to that momentum. The Knights held Heisman hopeful Ollie Gordon II to just 25 rushing yards. The Cowboys can still make the Big 12 Championship game but the loss in Orlando definitely hurt their chances.
